Time Bank for a free com-
munity screening of “Time as
Money,” a new feature docu-

showing will be on the Asto-
ria campus in Columbia Hall,

ing will be followed by a
question-and-answer period
with Eklund and board mem-
bers from the Lower Columbia

program that uses time as the
currency. Timebanking began
in the 1980s while civil rights
lawyer and former speech
writer for Robert Kennedy,
Edgar Cahn, was lying in a
hospital bed after a heart at-
tack. This experience of feel-
ing helpless, similar to the dis-
enfranchised and unemployed,
gave him the idea to create a
new system of money as a tool
to connect people and neigh-
bors called time dollars. Time-

lives, but it empowers them to
create larger-scaled timebank
projects, giving everyone in-
volved ownership in the com-
munity.

LONG BEACH, Wash. — Ac-
claimed
singer-songwriter
Casey Neill will perform at 7
p.m. Saturday, June 13 at the
Peninsula Arts Center.
Neill
has
performed
throughout the world on stag-
es such as New York’s Town
Hall, San Francisco’s Great
American Music Hall, and
Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket.
He has played as a member of
the Minus Five as well as shar-
ing stages with Jello Biafra,
Pete Seeger, Sunny Day Real
Estate, Camper Van Beetho-
ven and countless more.
Irish supergroup Solas re-
corded Neill’s original song
“Lowground” on their albums
“Waiting for an Echo” and
“Reunion.” In 1997, Neill
inked a three-record deal with
the folk label Appleseed and
was featured on their tribute to
Pete Seeger along with Bruce
Springsteen, Billy Bragg and
Bonnie Raitt. A compilation of
his material entitled “Memory
Against Forgetting” was re-
leased by Amy Ray’s Daemon
imprint in 2005.
Following a few years of
residence in New York City,
Neill moved back to Portland
