Track: Gulls speed to win 1,600-meter relay
Continued from Page 5A
“The Astoria girls … Kaylee was
just awesome,” Kilday said. “It was
fun to see. I think we’ll see Darian and
Danielle (Willyard) vie a few more
times.”
The Seaside girls scored three vic-
tories of their own, as senior Allison
Kilday ran 15.84 to win the 100-meter
hurdles, and broke her own school re-
cord with a 45.66 in the 300-meter hur-
dles. She is ranked in the top two in the
state in both events.
The day ended with Seaside’s se-
nior foursome of Kelly Willyard, Eliz-
abeth Barnes, Danielle Willyard and
Kilday winning the 1,600-meter relay
in 4:08.11 (second in state), with Asto-
ria second.
2WKHUVWDWHTXDOL¿HUVIRUWKH*XOOV
were Blakesley (second, 1,500);
Josie Smith (second, 3,000 meters);
Bridgette Malone (second behind
Kilday in the 300 hurdles); the 400
relay; and Danielle Willyard will end
her prep career not far from where she
will attend college (Northwest Chris-

Juneau Meyer blazed to a 51.23 win
the 400 meters, and Jackson Januik ran

long jump with a leap of 20-7 ½ —
SCOREBOARD
Astoria freshman Kaylee Mitchell, right, has a hug for senior teammate
Kaisa Johnson, who placed second behind Mitchell and also qualified
for the state meet in the 800 meters.
Seaside’s Jackson Januik on his
way to a win in the 800 meters.
Astoria’s Lucas Caruana, left,
took second to also qualify
for state.
Malone second in the hurdles had a
huge PR, and just came out of nowhere.
We had all seniors running the 4-by-4,
and they gave everything they had.
“Jackson Januik a huge PR in the
800. But today our biggest inspira-
tional race was Charlotte Blakesley in
the 1,500. She knew she had to give
everything, and she did.”
