‘Daily A’ meet set for Saturday
The Daily Astorian
After two years at Seaside High
School, the annual Daily Astorian Invi-
tational track meet is moving back to
Astoria High, which will serve as host
of the 27th annual event Saturday.
The meet begins at 10 a.m., with
running events slated to start at noon.
This event is a great day for kids,
said Astoria High School Athletic Di-
rector Howard Rub. “We want to es-
pecially thank The Daily Astorian for
continuing to sponsor this track meet.”
With a growing number of schools
and athletes competing in the meet, the
“Daily A” was held on a Saturday last
year, and will again take place as a one-
day, Saturday meet.
“We are pleased to host this again
this year,” Rub said. “It takes numerous
volunteers working to pull this off, so
we want to thank them for their tremen-
dous efforts.”
Besides the host Fishermen, some
of the schools which will be attending
include Banks, Ilwaco, Jewell, Knappa,
Naselle, Rainier, Seaside and Warren-
ton.
The meet will feature some of the
top-ranked athletes in Oregon high

in which they currently have the best
mark in the state:

SEASIDE — Seaside
had the tying run at first
base in the bottom of
the seventh inning, but
the Banks Braves held
on Thursday night for a
5-4 win over the Gulls at
Broadway Field.
Seaside’s Jake Bassett,
battled Jake Evans and
Dalton Renne of Banks in
a pitcher’s duel, with Ev-
ans and Renne allowing
just three Seaside hits, to
four for the Braves.
“It was a well-pitched,
well-played
defensive
game,” said Seaside
coach Joel Dierickx.
Zach Quicke had a
two-out RBI hit for the
Gulls, while Brent Walsh
drove in another run.
The Braves scored
three runs in the fourth,
and held a 5-2 lead go-
ing into the bottom of the
sixth.
The same two teams
play today at Banks.
Knappa 18,
Neah-Kah-Nie 3
KNAPPA — The
Knappa Loggers im-
proved to 7-0 in North-
west League play, 9-0
overall, with an 18-3
win over Neah-Kah-Nie
Thursday at Teevin Field.
The Loggers, who
have yet to play a full
seven-inning game in
league play, play a dou-
bleheader at Neah-Kah-
Nie today.
Freshman

Dale Takalo gave up just
two hits in Thursday’s
win, with eight strike-
outs.
The Loggers collect-
ed 13 hits at the plate,
including two doubles
and four runs scored
for Tyson Burnard; two
hits, with a double and
four runs scored by Ja-
son Miller; and a double
apiece for Nate Truax,
Justin Dragoo and Andy
Miller.

so I was quite pleased when
we totaled the scores.”
