graduate South Jetty
High School
WARRENTON — Nathaniel J. Jean-
notte entered the Oregon Youth Authority
(OYA) in December 2012 with 1.5 school
credits to his name. Jacob J. Varize, who en-
tered a year before Jeannotte, had no credits.
But both of them overcame their credit

mony was held at OYA’s North Coast Youth
Correctional Facility in Warrenton.
“Today we have the most diverse
group of graduates I have ever had the
chance to be involved with,” South Jetty
Principal Rich Glinert said. “How is that
you ask? Well, one student ran full speed

one walked through it, one went through
sideways, and the other moonwalked.
That’s diversity, right?”
Glinert gave each graduate a hardcov-
er dictionary along with their diplomas.
Nguyen said he plans to apply for college,
a hope voiced by several other graduates.

Mosley entered OYA with 23 credits,
needing 24 to graduate. “The last one was
the hardest to get, but I made it with all of
the help from my teachers and peers,” he
said. “I want to use this opportunity to bet-
ter myself. When I have a chance, I plan
on going to college to provide myself with
a better future for me and my family.”
OYA Director of Inclusion and Intercul-
tural Relations Maria Chavez-Haroldson
complimented the graduates on overcom-
ing numerous challenges and obstacles that
might have deterred other young people.

ma,” Chavez-Haroldson told the graduates,
whose families attended the ceremony. “All
of us at the Oregon Youth Authority are
deeply proud of your accomplishments.”
To improve their prospects after they
complete their court-ordered commit-
ments and return to society, all youth in
OYA facilities must participate in edu-
cation programs. OYA partners with the
Oregon Department of Education and lo-
cal school districts to offer classroom and
vocational education opportunities. North
Coast YCF is one of 10 youth correctional
and transitional facilities managed state-
wide by OYA. South Jetty High School
is operated by the Warrenton-Hammond
School District.

SEASIDE — Chapter CR,
the Seaside PEO branch, is
holding its biggest fundrais-
er of the year, a spring plant
sale. Orders must be received
by April 1. The plants will be
available May 2, a week before
Mother’s Day. A diverse se-
lection of annuals, perennials,
herbs, vegetables, planters and
hanging baskets are offered,
supplied by New Leaf Green-
