But they hadn’t met until that concert. He was in the Army
Reserve, planning to enter police work, and she was a print-
maker studying art at Utah State.
“After dating for one year we decided to marry,” Stephanie
said. Joshua proposed during another Anberlin concert in
2011. The band saw the proposal, and invited them backstage
after the show.
The couple decided to marry on the Washington coast be-
cause Stephanie has been vacationing there with her family all
her life. “It’s my favorite place in the whole world. There’s no
other place like it. I’ve always wanted to marry there.” She
has fond memories of climbing the rocks at Beards Hollow,
half-hoping that she would be stranded there by the tide. “I
love that place,” she says.
When the family visited Long Beach and, as Stephanie
said, “the kids were too crazy,” her mother would disappear
someplace to unwind. Stephanie had no idea that her mother
would be having a relaxed brunch, away from the kids, at the
Shelburne Inn. Not until her mother suggested that the fam-
ily and wedding party stay at the hotel and hold the reception
at the restaurant. Stephanie googled Shelburne Inn, “and the
minute I saw it I knew it was perfect.”
Once the Shelburne was confirmed the planning was sim-
ple. The restaurant provided an excellent dinner for the re-
ception, including wedding cupcakes made by co-owner and
baker Laurie Anderson. Anderson also guided them to the
Shelburne’s other preferred vendors, Artistic Bouquets in
Seaview and a photographer in Astoria, which was me.
Stephanie simply says, “They took good care of me.”
