3B THE DAILY ASTORIAN • FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2015 Midsummer Scandinavian Court debuts Monday The formal presentation of the 2015 Astoria Midsummer Scan- dinavian Court is at 7 p.m. Mon- day at Astoria High School. The Scandinavian Nordic dancers are performing, and refreshments will follow the presentation. Senior Court Princesses Miss Denmark is Meisha Boettcher, a junior at Knappa High School. Her parents are Gary and Ingrid Boettcher of Knappa. Grandparents are Don and Mar- cy Boettcher and John and Maria Thorslev, all of Knappa. She is the captain of the school Forest- ry Team, and works at the Astoria Dairy Queen. She enjoys reading novels, wrestling, riding bikes and spending time with her best friend. Miss Finland is Kaisa Johnson, a senior at Astoria High School. Her parents are Troy and Lori Johnson of Astoria. Grandparents are Tom and Ione Johnson, all of Astoria, and the late Donald and Sally Johnson. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and is on the varsity soccer and track teams. She also has been involved in youth activities as a member of First Lutheran Church. She enjoys ballet, reading and writing. Miss Norway is Leah Marie Telen, a senior at Astoria High School. Her parents are Jeff and Tracy Telen. Grandparents are Vern and Diane Telen and Bob and Claudeane May. Miss Sweden is Kristina Kjell- berg, an exchange student at Asto- ria High School. Her parents are Hans and Mia Kjellberg of Up- psala, Sweden. She plays soccer in the fall and is now going to try the swim team for the first time. She likes singing, and she comes from a musical family. She enjoys soccer, soft- ball, guitar lessons, hip hop dance, swimming and is involved in 4-H. Junior Miss Iceland is Delaney Patterson, a third-grader at Lew- is and Clark Elementary School. Her parents are Kelley and Me- Junior Miss Sweden Payton Harper lissa Patterson of Astoria. Grand- parents are Christine Paterson of Knappa and the late Danny Pat- terson. Great-grandparents are the late Hugh and Harriette Forney. She enjoys dancing with the Scan- dinavian Nordic Dance Group, crafting with her grandmother, clam digging and spending time with her friends. Junior Miss Norway is Raelee Anne Telen. Her sister, Leah, is Miss Norway. Junior Miss Sweden is Payton Harper, who is in second grade at John Jacob Astor Elementary School. Her parents are William Harper and Ashley O’Bryant. Grandparents are Bill and Sally Harper of Astoria, Billie Tarab- ochia of Astoria and Gig Harbor, Wash., and Mark Tarabochia of Astoria. Great grandparents are the late Obie and Gertie O’Bryant. She enjoys reading, science, and also enjoyed ballet and tap and ju- jitsu. She loves animals and likes to visit the Clatsop County Animal Shelter to visit the cats and dogs. Crown Bearer is Stian Mat- thews, who attends Lewis and Clark School. His parents are Greg and Saara Matthews. Grandpar- ents are Andy and Maija Carlson and Dick and Diane Matthews. He likes outdoor activities, especial- ly fishing, and plays soccer and basketball. He has attended the festival every year since he was born and likes the food, barne fest and troll. Although he is main- ly Finnish, he attended a 2-week Norwegian camp where he learned language, dancing, cooking and culture. Chaperones Lora Posey is Senior Court Chaperone. Her parents are Mike and Sheri Posey of Knappa. She works as a veterinary technician at the Astoria Animal Hospital, and is a volunteer at Astor Street Company. She enjoys reading, horses and taking care of her cats. She likes to hike and try new ad- ventures. Junior Court Chaperone this year is Laura Biederman. She and her husband, Fabron, live in Asto- ria. She is a teacher at John Jacob Astor Elementary School, and en- joys spending time with her fami- ly, watching her daughters in their sports and other activities and her workout classes.
