Congregation Beit Salmon holds organizational meeting
After over 50 years without a
formal congregation, the lower Co-
lumbia region’s Jewish community
is organizing itself. The mission of
Congregation Beit Salmon is to en-
hance the cultural, educational and
spiritual life of its participants and
to foster a vibrant, diverse, and inter-
generational cohesive Jewish com-
munity.
Those interested in participat-
ing in this effort are welcome. The
meeting is at 11 a.m. Sunday in the
Fellowship Hall of Peace Lutheran
Church, 565 12th St. Enter from the
west side at the lower level. Park-
ing is on the street. Snacks will be
served.

Shrove Tuesday
Pancake Supper
Grace Episcopal Church, 1545
Franklin Ave., celebrates the Last
Sunday after the Epiphany at the 8
and 10 a.m. Sunday services. Pa-
rishioners are asked to bring palm
crosses or branches from Palm Sun-
day last year to be burned to use as
ashes on Ash Wednesday. The Grace
Church tradition of “putting away
the Alleluias” will occur following
the 10 a.m. service.
The annual Shrove Tuesday Pan-
cake Supper is served from 5 to 7

Vow Zen Monastery, located at
79640 Quincy-Mayger Road in
Clatskanie, is holding a class, “Intro-
duction to Zen Practice,” from 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Feb. 28.
This daylong class is for those in-
terested in learning about and experi-
encing the practice of Zen Buddhism.
The traditional forms are investigated,
and participants learn basic mediation
discuss how to maintain the practice
at home and at work. A vegetarian/
vegan lunch is provided.
There is no cost for the class, but
