GEARHART — The com-
munity-led effort to renovate
the only existing playground
in Gearhart took a big step
forward with the announce-
ment of Lum’s Auto Cen-
ter and Toyota Motor Sales
awarding a donation totaling
$10,000 toward the Gearhart
Playground Project. The state
of the art, eco-friendly struc-
ture is designed to provide
a safe and controlled space
where children can receive

having fun.
“We are thrilled and hum-
bled to be able to contribute to
such a worthy project that will

ness of an entire community,”
stated Lori Lum, general man-
ager of Lum’s Auto Center.
Seaside School District
Superintendent Doug Dough-
erty echoes this sentiment:
“The parent and community
support for this project has
been extraordinary. I know
the children will enjoy the
playground for many years to
come.”
The majority of the funds
were raised through gener-
ous donations from commu-
nity members during a dinner
auction coordinated by the
Gearhart Playground Proj-
ect Committee in November.
Thanks to overwhelming
community support, con-
struction of the playground
will be completed before
the end of March, just in
time for the children of the
North Coast to “spring” into
fitness.
