With enrollment of 473 students, TPJCC is the largest
Job Corps Center in the Northwest and provides train-
ing in 16 trades.
• About 6% of TPJCCʼs student body comes from Clatsop,
Columbia and Tillamook Counties.
• 5% come from outside the Northwest to attend TPJCCʼs
seamanship program which is the only one in Job Corps.
• The remaining percentage comes from throughout Ore-
gon, Washington and Idaho.
• The average age of the TPJCC student body is 19-21
years old.

Tongue Point Job Corps Center is one of the largest
employers in Clatsop County. The local economic in-
fusion is worth more than $10.5M annually and in-
cludes:
• Wages paid/spent locally.
• Institutional purchasing of goods and services from local
vendors.
• 473 students spending an average of $25 per week lo-
cally,
• Full tuition payment to Clatsop Community College for
about 13 students per term,
• Memorandum of Understanding with (Sunset Trans-
portation (The BUS) paying for all students to RIDE THE
BUS,
It is estimated the economic infusion has totaled in ex-
cess of half a million dollars over the past fifty years..

It is estimated that community contributions have ex-
ceeded 250,000 hours, worth more than $2M over the
last fifty years.

• What percentage of students entering without a high
school diploma obtain a high school diploma or high
school equvilency credential?
• What percentage of students complete a trade?
• Did every student earn certifications specific to their
trade? The expectation is 100%.
• Minimum gains are expected in literacy and numeracy
scores, indicating improvement in reading, writing, com-
prehension and math skills.
• It is expected that students obtain employment closely
allied to the trade completed – a Job Training Match.
Each center is expected to meet a percentage goal.
• It is expected that the center reach a percentage goal for em-
ployment for students not completing the Job Corps program.
• There are several goals pertaining to graduates obtain-
ing and retaining job, as well as being paid at an expected
wage. The average starting wage expected for TPJCC
graduates during Program Year 2013/14 was $10.66/hour.
How does Job Corps define and measure success?
The Department of Labor, Office of Job Corps has estab-
lished metrics in 15 areas to measure and report each
centerʼs performance on a monthly basis. Every perform-
ance measurement reflects studentsʼ successes. Per-
formance goals are set for all centers by the DOL; some
are experience based. Centers are ranked by their suc-
cess rates. The measures include:
Among the nationʼs 125 Job Corps centers, for the
program year 2013/14, Tongue Point Job Corps Cen-
ter ranked:
• 14th overall
• 1st for average wage earned 6 months post completion
• 3rd for average wage earned 12 months post completion
