“Job Corps is one of the best uses of federal tax
dollars. Oregon state and Clatsop county have been
fortunate in having Tongue Point Job Corps Center,
one of the oldest centers in the country, located in
Astoria for the past fifty years. It has not only been a
boon for the economy but has been a major player in
work force training for the whole Northwest. In addi-
tion, studentsʼ many community service contributions
to Clatsopʼs cities and organizations have been
invaluable. As always, Tongue Point Job Corps Center
has my enthusiastic support.”

Changing Lives
Launching Careers
Job Corps is your taxes at work. Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Job Corps provides
education, training, and support services to young adults, ages 16 – 24, at 125 Job Corps center cam-
puses located throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Those who enroll in Job Corps have the
opportunity to learn a trade and work place skills.
“The Tongue Point Job Corps
Center provides opportunities for
young adults to pursue the training
they need to thrive and live full,
productive lives in todayʼs
economy. Students graduate with
the technical and interpersonal
skills they need to succeed in the
workforce and go on to make
valuable contributions in their
communities. The services the
center provides benefit students,
communities, and the economy.
The Tongue Point Job Corps
Centerʼs 50th anniversary serves
as a reminder of the social and
economic value the program
brings to our region and I am
thankful to have such an important
facility on Oregonʼs north coast. Iʼm
proud to support such an excellent
investment in our communities.”

“The Tongue Point Jobs Corps has been nurturing
young adults and training students for employment for
50 years and the program has impacted countless in-
dividuals. We need more programs like Tongue Point
Jobs Corps that help train and educate students and
help set a solid foundation for their future. Itʼs been a
great 50 years and I look forward to celebrating many
more successes in the years to come.”
Jeff Merkley, U.S. Senator, Oregon
“For the past 50 years, our Tongue
Point Job Corps has been a vital part
of our community. Astoria is a better
place to live and raise a family
because of the quality of the staff and
students working and learning locally
at our Job Corp.
Countless times over the years,
when we have a community need, the
staff and students have stood shoulder
to shoulder with Astorians to make our
town a better place to live.
Congratulations to Tongue Point
Job Corps for the first 50 years of
accomplishments and we look forward
to the next 50 years of our Job Corps
in Astoria.”

Mayor of Astoria, 1990-2014
