Exchange students visit coast, newspaper
CIEE program helps train future leaders
The Daily Astorian
Students in the Council on
International Educational
Exchange program visited
The Daily Astorian today
to talk about journalism
and civic engagement and
to tour the paper. CIEE is
an international, nonprof-
it, nongovernmental high
school exchange program
that places students in U.S.
homes. This specific group
of students was attending a
mid-year conference in Sea-
side and are on U.S. State
Department
scholarships
and two of the students are
funded by the German Bund-
estag and U.S. Congress.
The program is designed to
empower the next genera-
tion of leaders and establish
long-lasting ties between
the U.S. and other coun-
tries. These six students are
from Serbia, Turkmenistan,
Germany, Kazakhstan and
Armenia. They all attend
high school in Oregon or
Washington.
CIEE’s mission is to help
people gain the knowledge
and skills necessary to live
and work in a globally inter-
dependent and culturally di-
verse world. Learn more at
