The Astoria Fishermen put
the clamps on Estacada Tuesday
night, with a strong defensive
effort leading to a 47-33 Astoria
win at the Brick House in a non-
league boys basketball game.
The home team trailed after
one quarter, 10-8, before the Fish-
ermen went on an 18-2 run in the
second quarter to take control.
“We struggled a little offen-
sively all night, but we had a pret-
ty good defensive effort,” said As-
toria coach Kevin Goin. “We ran
a 1-3-1 matchup, and (the Rang-
ers) seemed to struggle with it.”
Kyle Strange scored 16
points and Morgan Fruiht add-
ed 12 for the Fishermen, while
Kris Kelly had 12 for Estaca-
da, which remains the only
winless 4A boys team, at 0-10.
Astoria (5-6) plays at North
Marion Friday.
Jewell 44,
Livingstone 27
SALEM — Jewell had just
that was more than enough to
beat Livingstone Adventist,
44-27, in a Casco League girls
basketball game.
Gabi Morales poured in 27
points for the Lady Jays, who
outscored Livingstone 10-0 in
the second quarter.
Alysia Littlepage added 10
points for Jewell.

Gladstone 53, Seaside 47
SEASIDE — Gladstone had
completed a second-half come-
back to beat Seaside Tuesday
night, 53-47, in a nonleague boys
basketball game at the Gulls’ Nest.
Seaside held a 39-30 lead
midway through the third quar-
ter, but “we hit a lull the last part
of the third, which lasted half-
way through the fourth,” said
Gulls’ coach Bill Westerholm.
Fifth-ranked Gladstone was
able to take a 48-46 lead with
under two minutes remaining
in the game, before a technical
foul on the Gladiators with 1:20
left gave Seaside a chance to tie.
But a missed free throw and
another miss on a good look at
the hoop allowed the Gladiators
to retake control.
Gladstone made free throws
down the stretch to extend the lead,
at the line, to Seaside’s 5-of-8.
Jackson Januik had 14 points
and Austin Eagon added 12
for the Gulls, while Andrew
Thompson had 14 for Gladstone,
followed by Handsome Smith
and Nick Brown with 10 apiece.
Warrenton 49, OES 45
PORTLAND — Some late-
game heroics helped Warren-
ton score a 49-45 win at Ore-
gon Episcopal Tuesday night,
in a Lewis & Clark League
boys basketball game.
The Warriors trailed for much
of the game, until a 3-pointer with
50 seconds left tied the game, and
a steal and layup by Gavon Mc-
Fadden with 25 seconds remain-
ing put Warrenton in front, 47-45.
The Warriors took a charge
with 10 seconds left, and Brock
Johnson made two free throws
for the four-point margin.
Johnson led all scorers with
21 points, followed by Chris-
tian Holt with 12.
OES won the girls’ game,
45-29.
Knappa 70, Faith Bible 63
HILLSBORO — Tyson Bur-
nard scored 26 points, and the
Knappa Loggers held off Faith
Bible 70-63 Tuesday night, in a
Northwest League boys basket-
ball opener in Hillsboro.
The Loggers led by as many
as 16 points late in the game,
before the Falcons staged a late
rally that came up short.

Burnard hit four 3-point-
ers in the second half to lead

points and 11 rebounds; Dale
Takalo had 13 points; and Da-
kota Severson added 11 points.
Jason Miller pulled down 10
rebounds for the Loggers, who
play at Delphian Saturday.
Livingstone Adventist 66,
Jewell 64
SALEM — Jewell’s Trys-
tan Silva led four players in
Jays with 22 points, but Liv-
ingstone Adventist edged the
Jays 66-64 in a Casco League
boys basketball game Tuesday.
Ben Stahly added 18 points
and 14 rebounds for Jewell,
which held a 37-27 halftime lead.
Rylan Murry added 11 points
and Victor Berg scored 10 for Jew-
ell, while Silva pulled down 16 re-
bounds. Stahly added 14 boards.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Estacada 50, Astoria 40
Estacada outscored Asto-
ria 33-12 in the second half,
and the Rangers were able to
escape the Brick House with
50-40 win over the Lady Fish-
ermen Tuesday night, in a non-
league girls basketball game.
Astoria jumped out to a
15-4 lead after one quarter and
held a 28-17 halftime lead, be-
fore Estacada went on a 17-4
run in the third quarter, then
16-8 in the fourth.
The Lady Fish had three
Chloee Hunt with 14 and Rylee
DeMander and Kaylee Mitchel
with 10 apiece — and Estacada
countered with Tori Johnson’s
14 points, 12 for Kristen Kiser
and 10 for Jessie Hunt.
Chloee Hunt also had seven
rebounds, six steals and three
assists, with Taylor Mickle
dishing out four assists.
Gladstone 42, Seaside 37
GLADSTONE — Facing
another Top 10 team in the 4A
rankings, the Seaside girls let a
night at Gladstone, as the No.
3-ranked Gladiators rallied for a
42-37 win over the Lady Gulls.
A tenacious Gladstone team
and held a brief lead in the sec-
ond quarter, before Seaside’s
Sydney Villegas banked in a
3-pointer as time expired for a
19-17 halftime lead.
The teams battled through
quarter, with the Gladiators
heading into the fourth period
with a 29-25 advantage.
A 3-pointer made it 32-25,
before the Gulls staged a rally
of their own.

the Astoria Aquatic Center.
The Fishermen hosted Til-
lamook and Scappoose, with
the Cheesemakers going 4-0,
with wins over Scappoose
(103-59) and Astoria (102-
66) on the girls’ side; and 88-
69 over Scappoose and 79-63
over Astoria on the boys’ side.
Astoria posted a pair of vic-
tories over the Indians (97-66,
girls; 80-79, boys).
Astoria’s Bryce Nurding
won the 200-yard freestyle in
2 minutes, 12.74 seconds, then
came back to win the 500-yard
freestyle in 5:57.14.

dividual medley (2:47.34); Ja-
cob Hulti won the 50-yard free-
style (25.88); and Hulti, Covert,
Anthony Miller and Nurding
teamed up to win the 200-yard
freestyle relay (1:55.37).

Ashley Schacher took the 50-
yard freestyle in 28.35 seconds;
and Megan Sparks won the
100-yard backstroke (1:10.30).
