The 1 wo columns cost $700. They are of red granite, and came from Maine. They are eighteen inches in diameter, and including the base are 12 feet five inches long. Their weight is 8,500 pounds. 'I hey were r lilted into position by means of a derrick, and the process attracted much attention, a large crowd of people standing around to see how the thing was done. The effect is generally ad mit ed, as is the whole appearance of the building as it is gradually unfolded with the continued work. When completed, it will be the star adornement of Corvallis.
