members attended a memorial serv
ice at First Presbyterian church
- Sunday evening. The church was
'. beautifully decorated with cut flow
ers, and at the close of the services
these flowers were distributed
among the audience. There was
an able address by Rev. Bush, "Our
Dead Heroes:" special music by
the. choir; a vocal solo by Otto
Herse, and a trioi by Mrs. Bush,
Miss Lulu Spangler and Mr. Herse.
-A force of men are busy on the
. task of remodeling and repairing
the old building on north Main
-., street, two doors south of the steam
laundry. The. property was re
.cently purchased by the W. C. T.
U. ladies, and the front is to be
made into a free reading room.
In the rear, there will be rooms
wherein will reside the keeper of
Ih e. free library. The cottage be'
iween this building and - the laun
dry has also been purchased by the
ladies, and will be fitted , up and
' rented, the income to go towards

steamer off Formosa about May 2i.
The name of the steamer 'is un
known. Her crew waB saved.
Washington, May 27. If an
American vessel has been sunk by
Rojestveneky, as reported from
Tokio, an immediate demand for
reparation will be made by the gov
ernment. ' The Vladivostok cruis
ers sunk the British steamer Knight
Commander, and Russia was com
pelled to make an apology and pay
an indemnity to GreatBritain.
