Sieiwer Thursday for a visit with and Corvallis friend?. A. T. Grogett returned last night from Tallman, where he went to attend the funeral of an old friend. ' Andrew Calvert, who has been attending O. A. C. left Thursday for his home at Junction City,. to remain. Illness was the cause of Mr. Calvert's departure from col lege. . V , There is to be a big barn rais ing in the south end of the county, Monday. The building has . been e rected by Albert and Lewis Zierolf on their ranch. -Ernest Coleman, who recently came from Harrisburg to operate the O. KL. barber shop, departed Tuesday for the latter place, hav ing leased the shop to Ninus Fran cisco, who with Mr. Hibler, will hereafter run it. The finishing work on the I. D. Wells home was completed Wednesday by Charles Heckert, the builder. The inside finishing is of alder, and is said to be very elegant. : The plans have been drawn for a livery barn that Fruit & Waggener are to build at once on lots across the street from the Farmers Hotel. The building is to be 75 by 100 feet. ' The plans have been prepared and bids are shortly to be received for a new residence Dr. Pernot is to'erect on the lot north of his resi dence. It is understood that a . ten ant is waiting for the house, and that it is to be completed by June first. , T T One of the most enjoyable dances given in that locality this season occurred at the Willamette Grange hall on the eve of St. Pat rick's day. Music was furnished by an orchestra of the neighborhood, and a sumptuous supper was served by the ladies of the Grange, President T. M. Gatch return ed Thursday from attendance at a pessioo of the Development League at Salem. " L,te word from Portland ib to the effect that J. M. Nolan is no better. He has been for three weeks or more in a hospital there, and has been several times under the surgeon's knife. Alarm is net felt, but it is expected that his stay in the hospital will be somewbat pro longed. The steamboat Oregoua arriv ed up yesterday and is hauling wheat to the Corvallis Mills from warehouses up the river. She will be engaged in the traffic as long as the stage of water will permit. The .Willamette is now six. feet three inches. Two weeks ago, it was but a foot and a alf above the summer stage. I . This is the larg eat single shipment of horses from this point in many -years. Mr, Bailey remains' here and with the assistance of Mr. Wiley hopes to Becure twenty additional ; horses within the next two weeks.
