This is the first series of services held in that church since the death of Rev. Henry Ward Beecher D. D. Later at a series of meetings under his charge in Fort Worth, Texas over 500 decided for Christ. He is a strong preacher of quiet spiritual mind, and not sen sational. To know Rev. One of the big novelties in Min strelsy this season and a leading luikuit vv iv.il moiiaia o. J'lino liio u the appearance in the first part of twelve handsomely costumed lady vocalists. This double sextette of ladies are graduates of the famous Dunavin Musical College, where all highgrade colored musicians are educated. It is an acknowledgment tnat tne singing teatures or tnis or ganization compares favorably with the finest operatic companies in ex istence and surpass in excellence of harmony all so-called Minstrel vo calists. It has always been the en deavor of Mahara Brothers to excel in singing features and these ladies aided by twenty male voices in grand chorus certainly prove that the management has struck the key note which pleases and also invigorates the life of minstrelsy. CUT IT OUT. That's What Will Happen to ' Bell fountain Postoffice Other Local Postal Hatters. , Postmaster Johnson of this city, is in receipt of information from the department to the effect that the postoffice at Bellfountain is to be discontinued on and after Feb ruary 15th. This action will come as a surprise to all not , thoroughly acquainted with the methods of the department, as it is known that the office for'many years has served a large number of patrons. The discontinuance of the office was brought about by the inaugur ation of a rural delivery route from Monroe into the territory served by the Bellfountain office. The department holds the view that a community can better be served by a rural service than by a postoffice in the vicinity. If residents will place boxes along the delivery route, they are in no instance re quired to go for their mail a great er distance than formerly. The establishment of the rural route from Monroe and the dis continuance of the Bellfountain office necessitates a change also in the star route from Corvallis to Bellfountain via Inavale. That portion of the route from Inavale to Bellfountain is to be abandoned and a new contract let for carrying the mail between Corvallis and Ina vale. The necessary notice calling for bids on the short route has been posted in the postoffice at Corvallis and interested parties can obtain particulars from such notice. . A bond of $1,200 is required to be given. The schedule . provides for a daily service, and that the mail shall leave Inavale at 8:45 a and arrive at Corvallis at 11:45. It is to leave Corvallis at 12:45 and arrive at Inavale at 3:45 Teachers' Examinations. ' Notice is Hereby given that the county superintendent of Benton county, Ore gon will hold the regular examination of applicant b lor state ana county papers at Corvallis, Ore as given below and all per sons who are strangers to the County Board of Examiners must furnish testi monials as to their moral character be fore certificates will be issued. Thursday extension of the Benton county tax roll was completed by County Clerk Moses. During five consecutive years in the past, , the Benton Lcounty clerk has been the first in the state to complete his work, and turn over to the sheriff the tax roll. Clerk Watters accomplished this in ; each of the last three years of his .term in office. Clerk Moses did the same in two past, and this year he has been equally prompt. On Monday morning next Sheriff Bur nett .will be ready to receive taxes for the year 1904. If property owners pay the entire amount of their taxes before March isth, a re bate of three per cent is allowed, but they can pay one half before April 4th and one-half October 2nd. If at least one half is not paid ' be fore April 4th there will be ten per cent penalty and twelve per cent interest added. - The levy for county; state and state . school is ,i3.2 mill, and for county road rund 2 , mills.
