The craft is a credit to the builder it being tbe first attempt ot Captain Wheeler in tbat line ot business, and has tbe appearance of making many knots an hour. The boat is to be Glist ened "Kennith-Beulah." Agitation is rife for cutting the tall grass along the sidewalks and in the streets. The authorities require property owners to do it in Eugene and other towns, and many are anx loss tor a move of the same kind to be made in Corvallls. The effect, it all property owners would do ic, would be toward a revolution in appearan ces. It would do much to make the towrAappear tidy, and at a time when visitors from all over the northwest are passing through Corvallls, en route to and from Newport for a summer vacation. The noose was placed about the negro s neck by tbe little Wilson girl, who positively identified him as her assailant. 1 be negro - was then placed on the back of a horse, and at a signal from the leader of the mob tbe little Wileon girl led the horse from under him. Over 3,ooo persons, white and black, witnessed tbe hanging. The lynching was as orderly as a legal execution. After being assured tbat the negro was dead, .the mob cut down the body and turned it over to relatives for burial. Dunham was captured Friday near Vienna, Ala., after a running chase, during which he was ' twice wounded. He was brought here last night by tbe sheriff of this, Wilson, county. A large mob met the train at the depot and an effort was made to get the negro, but the officers spirited him away and car ried him to jail at Waltball, six miles from here, where tbe party was again met by a mob of determ ined men. wbo said their intention was to burn Dunham. Tbe officer in charge of the ne gro succeeded in prevailing upon the mob to give up this intention, but only after promising t deliver the negro to the mob this morning for execution. There was a strong sentiment for burning, but this was overcome, and the lynching took the f irm of a hanging. Dan bam stoutly maintained his inn'6nce to tbe last and denied thai tie had ever seen the Wilson girl. He admitted having visited Dunn's place, but dei ied any bad motive. His last remarks were mav'e to 200 negroee, wbo were as serii . ed about tbe place of execu tion Dunham telling them never to go a out a white man s bouse when won-en were at home alone. ; Tne three Dunn sisters, the eld est of whom is less than 18 years old, witnessed the lynching from a distance.
