FOUR HUNDRED THERE , BIG RECEPTION TO TOWNS PEOPLE AND STUDENTS AT CAUTHORN HA1X. Other Corvallis News A Wedding , Plan for Public School Ex hibit at St. Louis Coun-, ty Bills Paid. Four hundred people attended a reception given by Mr. and Mrs Horner, Mr. and Mrs. Whitehead and Mr, abd Mrs. Keady at Cauthorn Hall Tuesday evening. The affair was4he most numerous ly attended function of the kind that has been given in Corvallis in years, an,d was successful in every particular. , The guests were met at the main entrance and ushered into the cloak room, from whence they were led into the dining hall, where they were entertained. Th-j reception hall was elaborately as well as beautifully decorated with fir boughs and mistletoe. In the north end of the room a temporary stage had been erected, and from this a program was rendered. The opening number of the latter was Slumber Sea Song, a vocal . solo rendered very sweetly by Miss Mabel Keady. A Slight Miscalcu lation a character sketch by T. W. Espy was loudly applauded, and Grass and Roses was the title of a vocal number . most acceptably bung by Mrs. E F. Pernot. Owen , Meredith's Atrx Italiens was lead by Miss Edna Irvine, and for encore she gave Eugene Field's' Xittle Boy- Blue The Nightin gale was the title of a vocal solo by Miss Lulu Spangler, and for an encore she responded with "Violets" A vocal duet Spanish Lullaby by , Rev. and Mrs. Green was encored, and a second sekction wis given: The program ended with a Ladies chorus in the selection. "Theieis one That I Love Dearly," and Pretty Primrose 'for an encore. 1 he accompanists were Mordaunt Goodnoughand Miss Cara Wilson. The evening was delightful from every standpoint, as was generally remarked by all who attended. The refreshments were chicken sand- wiches, pickles, coffee and cake. WEDDED NOW. -lewie Barnouga and Miss Abbie 'roshoBg-Happened Wednesday. xhe marriage of Lewie Burnough and Miss AbbiejGroshong was sol mnized at the home of Mr, and Mrs. E. B. Horning in this city Wednesday forenoon. The cere mony took place in the parlor which was decorated with ivy and mistle toe. The bridal party entered to the strains of a wedding march ren dered by Miss Mabel Cronise, and the wedding vows were taken with Mrs. Humbert as the officiating minister. T. ? W. Espy was best man, and Miss Minnie Phillips was bridesmaid. After congratulations and a wedding dinner, Mr. and Mrs Burnough left by the Westside train for Portland, and thence to their future home at Enterprise, The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Groshong ot Hos kins and a sister of Mrs. E- B. Horning. She has been for a long time a trusted employe in Hornings well known grocery establishment, and has a wide circle of friends, The , groom is one of last year's graduates of OAC, where he was an all round leading student both in a literary way as well as on the athletic field. He is now a joint owner with Byram Mayfield, of the same class, in the leading drug store at Enterprise. Only, immediate relatives and friends were present at the nuptials. Among them were, Mr. and Mrs. Groshong. Fred and Frank Gro shong, Mr. and Mrs. J, H. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Burt Lacy, Miss Car ter, Miss Cronise, Harley Laugh lin, A. J, Burnough, brother of the groom, Mr ' Forsythe and Prof. Charles Johnson. At King's Valley. 1 ; At Link Allen's they have a new girl. She arrived Sunday. , The protracted meeting at - the old church closed Sunday, and the colored preacher has departed. Some one broke a window Saturday evening and threw eggs into the church. Bud Alcorn is in Portland buy ing Christmas goods. Dr. Luther already has a large supply of holiday goods on baud. t There is to be a Christmas tree at the- new church. - Uno. BILLS ALLOWED. The committee in charge of the school exhibit for the St. Louis ex hibit has formulated plan, and a circular letter has been sent all teachers by Supt. Denman with suggestions as to the character of work wanted for the display. The" materials must be sent to the su perintendent's office not later than January 26th. Mueller, bride of week, died of glandera last night. bne caught the dread dieease, al ways fatal to humans, from her pet noree, which she drove to this city while preparing her trousseau. Ht-r symptoms were obscure, but an ex pert who was called in positively declares that - she suffered from glanders or farcy, which, as most people know, is communicable to man from boras and mules which are primarily tff cled with it. M 8. Mueller was Emma Richell, daughter of Frederick Richell, who lives near Bridgepjrt. Whenever she drove to town, she herself har nessed, UQharneseed and tended her horse, which lately showed unmis takable eigDS cf glanders. About the middle of last month she drove here to buy garments she needed for ber wedding outfit,"... On Nov. 2I she fell ill. -Dr. A. A.' Holmes was summoned and found his pa tient Buffering from acute rheuma tism apparently. Her joints were red and swollen, she suffered con siderable piin and her temperature ran up to the daeerons point, 104 dpgreef. 1 ' . ' - ' ' Dr. Holmes treated ber for rheum atism, arjd in four days all ber symptoms but the fever subsided. Everyone believed she would foan recover and sbe was married to Mr. Mueller in her father's house on Thstkfgiving day. - List night she died after a retnrn of her original symptoms. When her young husband learned thpre was no hope for her his grief was overwhelming. Today the health officer quarantined her father's residence and its inmatee.
