A hook was caught in some way
in the nose of one of Mr. Weddle's
horses. A veterinary surgeon was
called, who sewed the wound up, but
it is very sore yet, and the horse, is
unable to work.
On Friday last, Henry Baker and
Louisa Sheiwe went . to Oregon City,
armed with a paper from the mother
of the girl, who is but sixteen, to the
effect that the mother gave he'r con
sent, and obtained a license and on
Sunday they were quietly married at
the home of- the mother, Mlrs. P. A.
Baker, who is an invalid. The pas
tor of the Baptist church, of which
the bride and mother are members,
Rev. Lucas, officiating. The groom is
the eldest son of P. A. Baker, a high
ly respected young man, and the bride
is the youngest daughter of Mrs, P;
A. Baker and John Schiewe, her first'
husband who died a number of years
ago. The young bride is well liked
by all who know her and in common
with all their friends we predict, for
ihem a happy future.' We heard tntt
the neighboring boys were well pro
vided for, as it was feared the din of
a charivari would be, bad for the sick
mother.

Stafford had quite an exodus on
Tuesday. Mr. and Mis. Ellegsen, Mr.
and Mrs. Claus Peters, Mr. and Mrs.
Krase, Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Gage
were among those seen -on the streets
of Oregon City, while Mr. Nussbaum
and Mir. Powell went to Portland with
load of potatoes and hogs. ''-'
Hogs are quite a profitable crop
late years. Last week Mr. Schatz
sold a load alive at his door, which
brought him the neat sum of $113.05
and he said the sum was pretty near
all gain.
Mr. Gage has a few white seed oats
to sell
Mr.' Powell returned from Portland
Sunday night at 9 o'clock, having
been in Portland since the previous
Friday on business, and walked from
Willamette, which
ter in health than for some time.

We sometimes go to town upon busi
ness of our own, and prefer to have
our team in the open, where it gets
pure air and is ready to start when
we have attended to business, but by
this short-sighted ruling we stay
away from Oregon City except when
obliged to go to our county seat to
pay our taxes. "It looks like the int
erest of the livery stables is para
mount to all others.
A lady living two miles out said
she would like to vdrive into town,
but there was no place to tie her
horse, and she didn't feel like paying
15c for her Horse while she stopped
for an hour or so, and she therefore
takes a car or boat for other places.
Farmers go to Portland and other
places with their produce, and do
their heavy buying at other towns for
the same reason. A word to the wise
