long daya while the steamship races along on Its way acroas the orenn.
One of these games Is shown. In the' picture sbu. it Is a Jumping
the rope race between girls and women who were sccniitl cabin pas
sengers. Small prixea were offered for the winners,' and an admission fee
rund. In the first cabin concerts are
who may be on board usually donating their service to help the same worthy
charity. The marks that appear-on the deck above were made In a sort of
hopscotch game that had preceded the race. When the weather is calm these
big vessels the picture was made on the Mauritania move along steadily,
and nearly all of the passengers spend the daylight boor on deck.
Our First Cotton Exports.
The earliest exports of cotton from
America were made lu 1TS. In which
year one bag was sent from Charles
ton to Liverpool, while twelve were
sent from Philadelphia .and one from

VALLEY AT 35 CENTS
The hop market la showing a mixed
condition, with sales being made at
various prices. Because some grow
ers have become scared,' dealers are
taking advantage of the situation and
sales have been reported down to 34c
a pound, but most of the nominal
transactions at this time are around
35c. '
Business at these figures has been
shown both !a Yakima, western
Washington and In the Willamette
Valley.
According to one of the leading op
erators, there Is practically no d
mand for hops at the moment. Owing
to the many reports of damage and
a short crop, brewer ar waiting to
see tbe hops In the bale before ord
ering.. Most of them are looking for
ample.
The few samples of fuggles receiv
ed have been of tbe best quality ever
turned out by Willamette Valley

laid. All sidewalk shall be six
feet wide and laid to the property
line. Curbs shall be laid on the
east side of the Macadamized por
tion of the street 15 feet from the
center thereof. Curbs shall be of
concrete and shall le set vertically

walks shall be of wood four (4)
feet wide and not less than three
