meeting that he would re-appoint
Jack Front every five days, until the
council made a decision. '
Measrs. Hall, Mlchaela and Strick
land ' voted for tb appointment of
Frost aa a regular pollceman and
Messrs. Meyer, Pop and Roak voted
against the appointment. Tb Mayor
and Councilman Burke did not vot
and Messrs. Andreaen and Holman
wer absent. -'
Mr. Hall brought the question be
for tb council by asking that a
red light be Installed on tb hill to
notify the policeman when be was
wanted. The Mayor explained that
Mr. Frost had been appointed for
temporary duty subject to th action
of th council. H said that he had
mad tb appointment because of the
demand for protection on th bill,
but b did nof wish to urge anything
that, would be contrary to. the Inter
ests of the taxpayers. Dr. ' Strickland
said that heretofore he had opposed
th naming of a policeman for the
hill, but he had been converted to
the other side by numerous persons
who had called upon blm regarding
the matter. He made the motion
that Mr. Frost be appointed, and led
the debate to sustain tb motion.
Argue Against Action,
Mr. Pop explained that th two
council men who wer absent opposed
the appointment of th policeman. Mr.
Roak declared that ther had been
atobbery on the hill sine Policeman
Frost was detailed to watch that sec
tion, and he thought ther would b
almost as many crimes committed,
with a policeman patrolling th
streets as before. Th Mayor ald
that th fact crmes were committed
In territory in which there Is polio
nrotectlon I no argument against
having such protection.
Mayor Brownell aald after th
meeting that five vote In favor of
the naming of a policeman ' were
necessary for th motion to carry.

ered at th next meeting when

The marriage of Miss Nellie Bailey,
daughter of Mrs. Jennie Bailey, of
Canby, and Helmer Olsen, was sol
emnised Wednesday,, at the Court!
House, Judge Beatie performing the
ceremony.
Miss Bailey Is the young woman
who ran away from her home at Can
by on Tuesday morning, walking from
Canby to New Era, wher she boarded
a train for Oregon City. 8he pro
ceeded to Redland, .where Olsen was
working. The mother finding the
daughter had run away and thinking
sb had com to Oregon City, en
gaged Grant White,1 the automobollst,
of Canby, to bring her as fast aa the
machine could travel to Oregon City.
After arriving here she found th
girl had left for Redland. Mrs. Bailey,
Mr. White, and Deputy Sheriff Miles
renewed th chase for th girl, and
upon their arrival at Redland hurried
to th home of th young man, wher
th girl had arrived a few minute
before. Th girl pleaded with her
mother and Mr. Miles to be allowed
to talk to th young man, but this
was refused, and sh waa brought
back to Oregon City. Th mother,
howvr, relented and gav her con
sent to th marriage, a did th fath
er of th ytung man, and both ap
peared a witnesses to th ceremony.
Olsen I only eighteen years of age,
and hi bride la sixteen veara.
The young couple met for th first
tlm several months ago, whn Olaen
was' employed by neighbor of th
girl's parent near Canby.
