Visiting automobllists will be ahown
special attention by the Portland Auto
mobile Club, Robo Festival week. Ar
rangements have been, made by the
directors of the club to provide stor
age facilities for the cart of visitors
that cannot be accommodated at tne
various garages. It Is planned to
erect a huge tent on a vacant block
and machines may be stored there for
safe keeping.- N
To guard against burglary or the
mlHapproprlation of machines, a sys
tem of checks will be used and stalls
will be built to correspond with the
checks. Owners will register their
machines and check numbers and will
present to the club representative In
charge ot the emergency garage their
check before removing their cars. A
comKtent caretaker and night watch
men will be employed to safeguard tne
property left in their charge.
An -Information hlirean will be es
tablished by the Automobile Club
where a Hat of hotels and private
borne accommodations win do avail
able for the Information of strangers.
Messengers will be In attendance to
guide visitors to garages, hotels and
rooming houses and in this way it la
thought everyone will be well taken
care of. Last year hundreds of auto
mobllists were compelled to leave
their machines In the streets without
shelter because of the crowded g
ages and the local club is determined
that this shall not happen again.
Headquarters of the Portland Auto
mobile Club are at 720 Corbett build
ing. Fifth and Morrison streets, and
any needed information can be se
cured there. To assist visiting car
owners In finding, their way about, a
folder will be printed with a map ot
the downtown district snowing tne
crinclpal buildings, hotels, garagea,
etc. At the headquarters an Immense
suddIv of fresh cut roses will be main
talned for distribution to out-of-town
visitors, together with all other neces
sary supplies for decorating the cars
for the Festival parades. Automobiles
displaying the official emblem of the
Portland Automobile Club which is In
the form of a wheel with the club's
name around the outer circle and the
legend: "Good Roads' In the center,
may be hailed by visitors In need of
advice or assistance at any time dur
ing the week.
Immediately following the automo
bile parade on Wednesday, the club
will entertain visiting motorists and
the new members of the club at an
informal luncheon. Musio and proper
entertainment will be provided.
