OSWEGO. Dec. 11 A number of
Oswego people attended the hearings
in Portland Wednesday before the
public service commission to voice
their protests at the granting of a
franchise to the Oswego Lake Log &
Boom company to convert Oswego
Lake in a log pond, w
There seemed to be a feeling among
those who heard the testimony that
the residents of the lake district so
far have made the better showing.
Mr. Maguire, one of the speakers in
outlining his client's position, declar
ed that the granting of the right to
use the lake would add stimulus to" the
lumber industry of Portland, and it
' would help provide w market for the
timber to the south and west of the
city. The lumber supply in the Will-j
amette and Columbia river districts is
being depleted, he stated, and unlesa
a new source of supply is opened up,
lumber mills will be driven from Port
land.
