day. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Warnock of the
coast visited Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Monk
and friends in Oswego last week.
Charles Quigley of Tigard was in
Oswego Monday.

meets Monday and Tuesday of one

OSWEGO, Nov. 29 An enjoyable
birthday party was given Carl Bethke
by Mite. Cairl Bethke last Monday
evening. "500" was played, those
winning ladies' honor were Mrs. Fred
Steffin, Mrs. Donald Richards and
Mrs. George Emrick. Those winning
gentlemen's honors were. Messrs. Em
rick. Albert Rosentreter and Fred
Steffins.
A birthday supper was served at
midnight. The table was beautifully
decorated in orange 'and white with
dainty place cards and each guest re
ceived a fancy cap and favor at their
plate.
Those enjoying the party were Mr.
and Mrs. I. A. Lord, Mr. and Mrs. R..

OSWEGO, Nov. 29 A Parent
Teacher association has at last been
organized in Oswego. On Tuesday
afternoon Mesdames Kelly and Hart-
zell of Portlanl both active in Parent
Teacher work came out to form the
local organization.
The following were elected officers:
Mrs 0 C. Merrick, president: Mrs.
Harry Gorshine, first vice-president;
Mrs. Will Ewing, second vice-president:
Miss Irma Vose, third viee-
nresident: Mrs. J. H. Running, secre
tary and Mrs. Wm. Bickner, treasur
er. The meetings will be held on the
second Tuesdav of each month at 2:
30 P. M- at the school house.
An organization of this kind has
long been needed in Oswego t Set
parents interested in school affairs
and inasmuch as practically every
other community has a Parent-Teacher
association, local people welcome
it and it is to be hoped that as many
Kjorhers will attend as can possibly
cotne.

Plans Are Made For
Election at Oswego
OSWEGO, Nov. 29 At the last
meeting of the Oswego city council
t there was but little business brought
before it all being of a . current na
ture together with the usual grist of
monthly bills.
The annual city election to be held
on Monday, (December 4, was auth
orized and the following election of
ficials named judges, Albert J. Thomp
son, George Thomas and Mrs. -.Lena
Foote; clerks, Nellie Nelson and Mrs.
Gladys Emrick. It was mentioned
that the next meeting of the council
will be given over to a discussion of
the proposed franchise to the Oswe
go Log and Boom company, .which
has been asked of the city council.
Lumber Yard May Be
Started at Oswego
OSWEGO, Nov. 29 Oswego may
again have a lumber yard, ft has
been several years since Johnson &
Cockran had a lumber yeard at Os
wego, and now parties from Tualatin
have been investigating the situation
and it is understood that they have
practically secured a lease upon the
drying sheds and yard facilities of the
old Spaulding company near the S. P.
track and will open for business in
the near future.
With the increased demand for lum
ber and building material in this vicinity,-
it is beleved a local yard will
do a good business. It will likewise
be one more institution that, will aid
in the upbuilding of Oswego.
Party Is Enjoyed
On Tenth Birthday
OSWEGO, Nov. 29 Mrs. G. C.
Worthington gave a birthday party
on Friday evening in honor of her
little daughter, Kathleen, it being her
10th birthday. Before dinner was
served, games, music and dancing
were enjoyed by the young folks.
Places were set for Eunice Weidman,
Dorothy Nelson, Roma Confer, Juanita
Haines, Audrey Cline, Marjorie Wei
ghtman, Elizabeth and Jane Merrick,
Marion Emmot and Helen Ewing and
the hostess.
The little tots had a jolly good
time and Miss Kathleen received
many pretty and useful gifts.

The Woman's Club held its last
meeting .at the home of Mrs. Walter
Wessling on Wednesday. Next meet
ing will be at the home of Mrs. Geo.
Thomas on Wednesday, Dec. 6.
The past week was "Library Week"
at the Oswego grammar school, quite
a number of good books were donated
by the friends of the children.
The Evening "500" club met Friday
at Mrs. Steffen's home.
The Dorcas society of the Congre
gational church met at the home of
Mrs. Thomas Cllnefelter on Wednes
day. The members are busily engaged
with Christmas sewing.
Mr. and Mrs. William Monk of Rock-
away are the guests of Mr. and, Mrs.
A; J. Monk.
Mrs. Ethel Simonton has moved
from her home on "A" street back
to Portland for the winter.
The pupils of Miss Hamilton's room:
gave a class playlet in -the school
house Friday. The guests were the
parents of the class and the teachers
and pupils of the grades.
Mrs. Ethel Knight and daughter.
Barbara, who have spent the past few
months in South Oswego, have re
turned to Portland.
Mrs. Pearl Riser of Willamette is
visiting her grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. K. Worthington, of South
Oswego.
Mr. and Mrs. George Baker and
family have recently moved into the
Desmond home.
- The Boy Scouts will hold the last
meeting of the year in the play shed
next Wednesday night.
Mrs. Dale Sigler .leaves next Wed
nesday for a six months' visit to her
old home in Worcester, Mass. Her
daughter, Dorothy, will accompany
her.
Mrs. Ruth Muessig and Mrs. Em
rick spent Friday in town.
Mrs. Sam Ross of Coyotte, Calif., is
on a few weeks' visit with her daugh
ters, who live in Willamette. She
spent Sunday with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. J. K. Worthington, at Os-1
wego.
Mr. and Mrs. H. Raffety of Portland
were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Er
ickson Sunday.
Lloyd Davidson has been sick for
the last few days an,d unable to be
at work.
Mr. and Mrs. Olliver Worthington
and son, Claude, of Lake Grove, spent
the week-end with Mr. Worthington's
mothers, Mrs. Alice Worthington.
Mrs. J C Haines, Sr., of Canby vis
ited in Oswego last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bickner were
hosts Saturday evening entertaining
relatives and friends with an eve
ning of cards.
Mrs. W. , Wessling entertained the
H. E. club and their husbands Tues-1
day evening.
Mrs. Frank Childs has been very
sick in the past week, on Sunday she
seemed to be some better.
On Scnday afternoon Mrs. Nelson's
little daughter, Dorothy, invited a few
little school mates in to eat birthday

OSWEGO, Nov. 29 The Oswego
grammar football team played Mil-
waukie at Milwaukie under the lead
ership of Jimmy Brandt, the captain.
The score was 48 to 0 in favor of the
opponents, but the home boys took
their defeat in good nature.
WOODCRAFT TO FEAST
OSWEGO, Nov. 29 --The Neighbors
of Woodcraft held their semi-monthly
meeting last Wednesday night The
losing team in the recent membership
drive which closed at last meting will
give a dinner, to the "heroes" who
won on the second Wednesday in De
cember.
The circle was glad to welcome 11
new members during the contest and
will be hoped they get as many new
members the next year.
OSWEGo LOCALS
Wm. Wessling, Pacific coast mana
ger for the Pathe exchange, who has
held there for safe keeping till his
second trial.
At the time of the shooting of
Wright on June 20, 1922, Mrs. Wright
also was wounded and is In the hos
pital here with a bullet In her brain.
Labbee is being held on a first degree
assault charge for that offense, which
will be changed to a murder charge'
If she should die.
Lynching was talked at the time
of the shooting and Labbee, who was
also wounded in the shooting affray,
was taken from the hospital to the
jail to prevent it. Numerous calls and
veiled threats Sunday night caused
the sheriff to take the above precautions.
