OSWEGO, Oct. 31 The pupils of
Mrs. Groshines room gave an inter
esting Hallowe'en program on Friday
afternoon. There were recitations,
songs, musical selections and a play
let with Virginia Nelson, Mary New-
cakes, The room was tastily decorat
ed in orange and black with plenty
of cats, hobgoblins, witches and
pumpkins. ..
Round Trip Fares
Slightly Reduced
OSWEGO, Nov. 9 The people of
Oswego received some relief in the
way of railroad fare reduction as a
result of a conference between Mayon
Hess, members of the council and
John M. Scott, general passenger
agent for the Southern 'Pacific Tues
day evening. The Oswego city offi
cials and Mr. Scott finally agreed on
a 30 cent round trip fare for Oswego
to and from Portland, which Mr.
Scott said was all the relief that
would ibe given at the present time.
The one way fare will remain the
same,'21 cents, and there is ho change
at present In the commutation rates,
although Oswego people had hoped
for a reduction in these as well. Just
"how soon the new rate will take ef
fect is not definitely known.

day afternoon from 2:30 to 5 o'clock.

home of Mrs. Geo. Bullock on Wednes
day. The next meeting will be at the
home of Mrs. Doctor Simpton in Port
land with luncheon at 1 o'clock.
Miss Gracie Bullock formerly of
Oswego, who now lives at Monmouth,
Ore., is in the Portland Surgical hos
pital where she underwent an opera
tion for appendicitis last Wednesday.
The Saturday Night Dancing Club
gave a dance Tuesday evening with
a large attendance and every one en
joyed a jolly good time.
Little Mies Marion Emmott and
Kathileen Worthington had a Hal
lowe'en partyt at Marion Emmott's
home Monday evening. Those pres
ent were Vern and Wayne Larson,
Bettie Jane and Billie Merrick, Kath
ileen and Gayol Worthington. The
little tots had a jolly good time.

ness meeting at the home of Mrs.
John Bickner last Wednesday. The
next meeting will be at the home of

Harry Summers will soon erect a
cottage on his property on Fifth

gon City were visitors in Oswego last
Wednesday.
The boys of the football team gave
a dance and card party at the grange
hall last Saturday night which was
well patronized. The money made
will he used to buy suits for the boys.
They will give another one next Sat
urday night.
Mrs. Albert Rosentretor was hos
tess on Thursday to number of
friends for luncheon.
Herbert A. Van Patten was taken
to St. Vincents hospital' Monday
morning. He is ill with pneumonia.
Eugene Waldorf was home Sunday
on a visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Petterson of Portland
were Oswego visitors Sunday.

The Oswego lodge of Artisans held
a regular session on Thursday night.
After the usual lodge work a social
time was enjoyed.
Mrs. Joseph Bowers, formerly Miss
Bertha Worthington of Oswego, and
who has been living in Texas the
past year, is the proud mother of a
baby boy bora Nov. 1, weight 8
pounds.
The H. E. club met at the home of
Mrs. John Bickner Tuesday afternoon
Mrs. Bickner won the first prize at
500 and Mrs. Leslie Savage won the
consolation.
Kathleen Worthington, Marion
Emmott, Audrey Cline, Elizabeth
Jane and Mary Merrick, Jack Dyer,
Jack Curtis, and William Merrick
made up a Jolly Hallowe'en group of
young folks on Tuesday night. They
all wore costumes' and with jack
o'lanterns and tick-tacks, kept some
of the neighbors busy answering door
bells. Later refreshments were serv
ed to the children and they all had
a jolly good time.

OSWEGO, Nov. 9 The election in
Oswego of precinct No. 1 was quite
a large vote, 227 larger than it has
been for some time. Although there
are 360 voters registered, there were
a number that did not turn out to
vote.
Miss Edith Bickner, Miss Julia Wil
son, Miss Nija and John Merrick were
the Oswego representatives of Lin
coln high school, who took part in
Health Week exercises held Friday
and Wednesday at the municipal au-
ditorium.
The Boy Scouts meet every Wed
nesday in the play shed at 7 o'clock.
All boys over 12 years of age are in
vited. H(a( attend) tlese meetings
caring to join the organization.
Mrs. W. S. Wessling chaperoned a
party of young people who went to
the Multnomah hotel Friday night to
attend the Camp Fire Girls' Hallo
we'en party. The ball room was beau
tifully decorated and dancing and
games were enjoyed. The girls of Os
wego camp, who attended were Kath
ryn Wessling, Marie Johnson, Gladys
McDonald, Niji Merrick and Hazel
dean Fulton and their escorts.
The Girls Club of the school is prac
ticing basket-ball, under the leader
ship of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Goreshlne.

after teaching in California and

An unfortunate accident occured at
the Tualatin bridge on SaVrrday when
the machines driven by Ewald Leis
man and Mrs. Clark of Petes Moun
tain collided. Both machines were
slightly damaged.
