Betty Bretcher gave a very pretty

ations were very pretty, all suggestive
of the Hallowe'en time and the games
and favors also were appropriate for
the occasion. A pumpkin in the cen
ter of the table held the favors for
the guests who were also furnished
with pretty caps as they arrived. Seat

Banquet At Church
JENNINGS LODGE, Nov. 2 Mrs.
.Nordstrom entertained the members
of her Sunday school class in the
church banquet room from 4 until 7
on Saturday afternoon. This is one
of the largest classes of the Sunday
school and the 17 members were all
present. The girls of the class serv
ed the punch, cake and candy and a
round of games with music were en
joyed by the gathering.

diligently for high honors. The los

banquet at the conclusion of the cam
paign. The first program given was
by members of Mrs. Barnes' team as

Wesley Milliken. J. A. Ream Jr., was
a charming "flower girl" and exe- j
cuted some fancy steps during the
ceremony, which was read by Mrs", i
J. A. Ream, Jr. Mrs. W. W. Davis
sweetly sang "I Love You Truly" pro
ceeding the ceremony. A wedding
supper was served to the assembled
guests. This program was conclud
ed with a song.
The next program was presented
by members of Mrs. Bersie's team

the Morning" by Mr. and Mrs. Buck
les, Mary Leisman, Mrs. Zimmerman,
Mrs. Shipley, and Mrs. Carpenter;
Wooden Shoe dance by Mrs. Ewald
Leisman and Mrs. Riley Denton who
wore regular dutch costumes; Donkey
Song; School Days, with Mrs. N. O.
Whitney as "teacher" whose pupils
were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Carpenter, Mr.
Whitney, Mrs. Ewald Leisman, Mrs.
Riley Denton, Mrs. McArthur, Mrs.
Tuor, Mrs. C. B. Willson, Mrs. Conrad
Zimmerman, Mrs. Frank Shipley, and
Mrs. Lulu Buckles; Guitar music by
Mr. and Mrs. August Moehnke; Back
ward stunt. This program was also
concluded with music.

were served. Mrs. Young being as

Mrs. Amy Bersie has accepted a po
sition in Portland and started wcrk
last Monday morning. She will re
side in Willamette for the winter
making (the strip to Portland each
day.
J. L. Gary gave an address on "Re
ligious Education" at the Methodist
church on Sunday evening. Mr. Gary
advocated the planning of a life giv
ing time for spiritual and mental de
velopment. Mr. Gary's address was
intersperced with humor and was well
received by a large and appreciative
audience.
Vena Barnes was a guest of Mrs.
Paul Muke of Gladstone on Satur
day evening of last week. On Sunday
Charges that County Judge H. E.
.Cross refused aid to county poor for
medical attendance was made yester
day in an affidavit signed for the re
call committee by John Beers," who Is
on the list of county pensions. This
charge, so far as is known, is the only
one which the recall committee has
made definite to substantiate their
general accusation that the county
judge has been making a practice of
curtaining pensions and holding down
the expenses of caring for the county
poor to the detriment of their well
being. The affidavit . charges:
"That before the last general elec
tion' In. November, 1920, Harvey E.
Cross, then running for County Judge,
met my wife and I on the streets of
Oregon City and asked us how much
help my brother and J were getting
from the county. We told him $30.00
per month. He stated that was only
one-half as much as -we ought to get.
After he became county judge he cut
our allowance down to $20 a month.
"Also, that several months ago when
I had an ulcerated tooth that dentists
and. physicians said .ought to be pull
ed out, and had no money with which
to pay for it, Judge Cross then asked
to allow me $1 for it refused and told
the dentist to tell me tp take a ham
mer and knock it out."
