LONDON. Sept. 1. The British gov-
itbe American consulate in Newcastle
' and the American government has
closed the consulate.
It is asserted that the Washington
government has been furnished with
proof that consular officials in New
castle abused their position to the dis
advantage of British interests, among
other things having refused to vise
British passports to the United States
on trivial pretexts unless the holders
of the passports- agreed to travel on
American vessels.
Bounty For Coyote
Paid Redland Man
Albert Frick, of Redlands, was paid
a bounty of $3.00 yesterday by the
county for a coyote which he shot near
his home Saturday.
Desertion Ground
of Divorce Action
A divorce was granted yesterday by
Judge J. U. Campbell to Marion Fin
laisen in her suit against A. H. Finlai
son. The couple were married in
Alaska, October 30, 1919. The cnarge
was desertion.

The Benefit dance which was given
by the Progresive Club, for an elderly
couple who are sick, last Tuesday
evening, wag a great success. A good
time was had and $66 was turned over
to them after expenses werepaid.

A most enjoyable affair was the
surprise party given Mrs. C..B. Wil
son t her home on Railroad avenue
last Thursday. This being her birthr
day. A number of her friends arrived
shortly before noon with well ladet
baskets and steaming kettles of good
things and a four course luncheon was
served by Mrs. Merritt Wilson and'
Miss Audrey Tour. Those enjoying

A wedding of interest and coming
as a complete surprise to their many
friends was that of Miss Genevieve
Fromong of Willamette and Gordon
Hammerle of Bolton They were
quietly married by the Rev Moore,
at the parsonage of the M E. church
on 26th and Saviour street, Portland
in the presence bf the immediate fam
ily.
The bride was beautiful in her gown
of champagne silk Tricolette with
slippers and hose to match. Her only
ornament was a string of pearls, a .
gift from the groom. Her sister, Hel
ene was bridesmaid and her gown,
was of brown Georgette crepe. Har
old Breeding was best man. The par
lors of the parsonage were decorated
In potted ferns and huge bowls of
yellow marigolds. The beautiful and1
impressive ring "ceremony of the M.
E. church was used. After the ser
vice they returned to the home of
the bride where dinner was
served. The living and dining rooms
of the Fromong home were beautifulllv
decorated in pint and white. A large
DasKetrul of lillies were in the center
of the table. The place cards were
pink lillies and by clever arrangement
were fastened to the chandelier with
streamers of Pink ribbons. The happy
coupie lert for a short honeymoon and
will be at their home in Bolton after
Sunday. Miss Fromong is the daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. fndy Fromong and '
a very popular girl of the younger set.
She has always taken an active part
in church work, being a teacher in
the Sundy school and singing in the
church choir. Mr. Hammerle is the
only son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ham
merle, of Bolton.
