New Industry May
Locate In Oswego
OSWEGO, June 27-WThere is strong
talk of Oswego landing a new indus
try. If the people show proper com
munity spirit and try to help the in
dustry along. The business is a fac
tory turning out auto parts of various
descriptions, as well as a number of
new inventions. The plant at present
is equipped with about $25,000 worth
of high class machinery and employs
12 or 15 men and is in its infancy.
Though not very large as yet this
plant has an excellent chance of be
coming a very large one and in six
months or a year may be in position
to employ several hundred men. The
owners are live and progressive busi
ness men. Their present location
does not suit them for various reasons
one of which is that there is no avail
able factory site with shipping facil
ities, which they will need in the near
future. These men believe that Os
wego would be an ideal place for
their plant. So if the people of Oswego.-
who have money to invest in
such a proposition with a backing
think it over it will probably mean
many articles being shipped out of
here with the label "Made in Oswego"
on them to all parts of the United
States. This is a clean industry and
will not be' noisy, smokey or any oth
er nuisance to the community.
Forest Fires Rage
In Oswego Section
OSWEGO, June 27 The timber
fires have done quite a lot of damage
near Oswego. The McLean Logging
company, which has been operating
on a large scale west of Oswego, is
the , heaviest looser so far with the
loss' of a rollway of about 300,000 feet
of logs, which were destroyed before
the company fire fighting crew got
the fire under control. They were
able to save four or five other roll
ways. The Tryon creek section had a fire
a few days ago but fighters finally
put it out. A fire is reported to be
raging in the woods of the George U.
Gill sawmill company, but just how
bad and how much damage has been
done is not known at present. There
also was one started on the east side
of Oswego Lake but was put out be
fore any damage was done.
Cement Sidewalks
Laid and Accepted
OSWEGO, June 27 At last Thurs
day's session of the Oswego city
council, work on. the fifteen and a
half blocks of cement sidewalk was
reported complete and the consolidat
ed construction company's job accept
ed. The city is now engaged in using
UP the old wooden side walks that
have been replaced by cement ones.
The best of the wood will be used for
repair , work on broken walks still
in place, and if there is still good
wood left after the repair work is
done, there will be a block or two
extension work here and there in the
thickly settled streets that are still
without sidewalks.
One of he first that will likely re
ceive this is one block on A avenue
from Seventh to Eighth streets.
Interest In School
Election Is Light
OSWEGO. June 27 At the last
meeting of the Oswego school elec

Pettinger was elected a director to
succeed Mrs. Dora Wilson, who did
not run again and John Bickner was
elected clerk. All other members of
the board are holdovers. ,

the wish of the South Town people
