LOCATION OF ARCADIA
ROAD IS UNDER PROTEST
Petition for a writ of review of the
county court's action in establishing
the Arcadia road, near Oswego, was
filed in the circuit court here Satur
day by E. H. James.
The road, totaling 650 feet in
length, connects from the crossing
under the P. E. and E. railroad cross
ing through the town of Arcadia to
the Pacific highway, crossing the
Fielding tract. It traverses James'
property and he is objecting to its
location. The petition for a writ of
review is the second action filed in a
week to prevent the completion of
the road.

PORTLAND, May 1. Presiding Cir
cuit Judge Tucker issued a temporary
order this morning restraining union
longshoremen from picketing or con
gregating at places of shipping or at
offices of the Waterfront Employment
association for the purpose ot intimi
dating strikebreakers.
This order will be in effect until
the injunction suit which the employ
ers brought against the longshoreman
is settled, unless at a hearing set for
Friday the strikers can convince the
court that they should be permitted
to picket.

for county commissioner and Thomas
F. Ryan, aspirant for the position of
state treasurer, were given an oppor
tunity to speak .in their own behalf
before a crowd of 100 at a meeting of
the women voters held in the central
library Thursday night.
The candidates for commissioner
who spoke were Ralph W. Hoyt,
Dow V. Walker, Rufus C. Holman,
A. A Muck, W. L. Lightner and
Robert A. Sawyer. iDr. E. T. Hed- '
lund, democratic candidate for state
senator, also spoke.
While this meeting was In progress
a little gathering of 30 members of
the Jackson club was held in an
other room of the library. Here can
didates for the various offices to be
filled in the general election next
fall presented their views.
Curfew to Ring at 9

Johnny can now play run-sheep-run
for another hour every evening. With
the advent of the first day of May the
curfew has been changed from eight
to nine o'clock.
The eight o'clock hour is observed
only during the winter months.
