IDEAS OF A PLAIN
' Dear Comrades: "We who have sons
and daughters of high school agre can
not bat be interested In the subject at
present under much discussion name
ly that of .dancing in the schools. In
talking of dancing we usually mean
the modern round dance, its too bad
its called dancing because its not giv
ing a fair deal to what is really meant
by that much abused word and highly
rythmatic motion set to classic music
whieh. i3 what dancing really is.
Ttwe is no virtue in the modern
dance because it is used for the pur
pose of personal contact, instead of
the grace and beauty obtained by the
use the dances of our forefathers
who held the art as high as that of
musle or drama, another evil of the
round dance is the customary music
used, I really believe if the standard of
music in the ball room were higher,
if only the classics were used, we'd
fast aark back to the better class of
danoes. namely the asthetic class.

COUNTRY WOMAN 1
Instead of fighting this evil of the
modern round dance and jazz music
lets establish a high standard of musio
in the schools prohibit all cheap mus
ic in our school orchestras, give our
young girls and boys plenty of ryth
matic motion with music of the
whlesome artistic sort, such as the
Pageant the lighter operas, cantatas,
gym work with good music, asthetic
dancing. Thus the better things will
unconsciously swallow up the evil con
fronting us, that of the modern round
dance which does not promote com
radship but intense personal feeling
and which would ruin our young peo
ple for the appreciation of the best
things and would fast lead them to
lack of concentration in their daily
class study because youth has not the
judgment to stop at danger posts but
puts its heart in that which appeals
to it most.
