SANDY SCHOOL NOTES SANDY, Jan. 25. The Sandy Peppy club has been orangized in the upper grades of the Sandy school. The pur poses of the club are to teach the pu pils the proper way to conduct busi ness meetings and to give them drill and practice in addressing the public. The following officers were elected: President, George Dodd; vice-president, Tomy Scales; secretary, Harold Krebs; treasurer, Kenneth Scales. A number of standing committees were appointed. A meeting was held today, the fifth and eighth grades giv ing the program. Parents are cordially invited to attend these meetings. Although the Sandy grade pupils are having a hard tussle with arith metic, the folowing will show that many are doing exceptionally well in their monthly tests in other subjects: Albert Hoffman and Milton Meinig each received 100 in geography, Al bert also received 100 in history- Ixi cile Dodson, Tommy Kubitza, Ruth Esson, Tommy Scales and Bernice Duncan each got 100 in history. Bar bara Scharnke, Kenneth Scales and Tommy Kubitza each received 100 in grammar, George Bodd 100 in spelling, Wayne Duncan 100 in physiology and Kenneth Proctor 100 in civil govern ment. Mrs. Kennedy of Portland took charge of the Firwood school last Mon day and will teach as a substitute till Miss Ruth Johnson is able to take up her work again. Miss Johnson went to her home at Rockwood about a week ago, but was till feeling miserably. This school has been without a teach er four or five weeks. i There are about twenty-two pupils in the Dover school this year which is said to be the largest number of pu pils for some time . And these twenty two have a teacher who weighs three hundred pounds and being a man, has little trouble with discipline. County School" Superintendent Ved der was a dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. C- Miller and Miss Margaret Mil ler while on his visit here last week. Mr. Vedder's visit here was greatly apreciated by everyone who is inter ested in our schools. He gave much encouragement and much good advice along school lines. Miss Margaret Miller will read at the graduation exercises of the Kelso school tomorrow night. The old school pump has been out of repair again, which has been it's "habit" ever since it was installed. Miss Mary Collier of the Beech school -was out from Portland as a guest of the Duke family over the week-end. Miss Elsie Lippold had a delightful time in Portland from Friday evening till Monday morning with friends. Mrs. Florence Connors spent the week end at her home in Portland. Mrs. Connors expects to train some of her little folk to take part in the next community song! service which will be Sunday evening, February 12. Stearns Eason started to school again last Monday after several week's absence that was unavoidable. Mildred and Grant DeShazer are the only-liigh school pupils that were neither tardy nor absent the first half of the schooryear. Carl Scharnke was not tardy, and was absent only one half day. The first semester of the H. S. end ed Jan. 20, 1922, and consisted of eighty five school days. Edith Hein, Walter Dodson and Alta DeShazer missed only one day in the semester just mentioned. Rose and William Burdick are two new high school students who entered last Monday from the Firwood district. Mr. and Mrs. Hoggard, blind enter tainers visited the schools Monday, the grades assembling upstairs and Haggard gave a very instructive talk about the education of the blind. He also played the flute and piccolo, and was accompanied by his wife. R. S. ! Smith drove the Hoggards' up to the I school, and Joe Loundree drove them back to town, all gratia. Some superstitious wives, when their husbands go forth to play poker on their night out, stick a pin in the lapel of their coats to bring them luck. A split of the winnings.
