Will Bosholmn is busy making his
thresher hum in the Firwood district
this week.
The Gunderson ooys threshed last
Tuesday and Krehs went from them
to the Zoggs. The grain is a fair crop,
according to reports.
Jack Scales took another lot . of
huckleberries to Portland for Harry
Dodson There were 56 gallons in
this lot.
C Scharnke and son put the finish
ing coat on the Will Updegrave house
this week.
H. Dahl, fbelow Cottrell) is raisins
seed corn for Routlage's Seed Store.
Dahl says ten car lots of potatoes
have already been engaged in the
Yakima valley to ship east. The po
tato crop seems a failure in places.
Someone broke into the cabin be

Sanriy river last week and carried off
clothing and neariy everything in the
cabin. A window was broken oren b
the thief, who is supposed to have
k-nown Locust had igone away for a
day or two. The Locusts had been out
her two weeks.
"Bill" Severin, who has; started a
garage at Kelso expects to come out
and run the business himself later on,
and the Severin family will likely
mov out.
Max Woenche lost a horse valued
at two dollars a few days ago which
is hard luck again. The animal was
not sick long and was supposed to
have died from colic but when an
autopsy was performed the lining of
the stomach was bursted "rolled up"
in a bunch. The cause was thought
to have been from a hurt from run
ning down hill or falling over logs ia
the timber.
"Woenche is still able to get around
on crutches, and keep- about the
same
Lewis Hoaglam is going to have
his ranch house painted, and F. H.
Lake began the work this week.
Lake has also been doing some inside
painting in the Scales residence.
George Koesickcr lost a valuable
cow a few days ago from milk fever.
They did not know the trouble till the
animal was too far gone.
R. E. Esson . and Cecil Duke re
turned from a wonderful roust-a-bout
camping, fishing, hunting etc. trip of
about two week's duration. They seem
to have spread themselves over most
of the Coast Range country and fina
ly landed in Astoria so as to drive
home over the perfectly fine highway
They caught more fish than they
could eat, so tried to cure some but
didn't get the right "wrinkle on it.':
The chief engineer i for the Dwyer
R. R has a route pretty well outline
as far as the Three Six country. The
roac" will piss directlv through the
Pizzola-Boitano farm. This road will
from all indications, be one of import-

Mario Poitano took six fat hogs
down to the stock yards last week and
visited his relatives, the Pastorinos'
on his return. Pastorino says the
gardeners are making good near
Troutda'.e, as they sell direct to the
consumer. Otherwise they could not
pay $25.00 per acre rent. Eoitano says
the farmer cannot do that yet

moments with the brush, also, and the
Meinig property will soon have it's

and the transformation is marvellous.
Mrs. Bertha A. Purcell, graduate of
the Rval Conservatory of Leipsig,
Germany and a pupil of Scambati of
Rom? announces her winter season to
begin Monday, Sept. 12. In addition
to piano and voice, Mrs. Purcell will
also form a class in harmony and also
announces a series of monthly musi
cals to bo given at her studio the
coming season. These evenmgs of
music will be in the nature af lecture
recitals and will prove both helpful
and instructive to the ambitious young
student. The first six months will be
devcted to the study of the old clas-
sics the second half will be taken up
with operatic music,., old and new.
Mrs Kate Schmitz and Miss Eloise
Hall will be the assisants this year,
both of whom are favorably known as
instructors and concert musicians.

SANDY, Auig. 31. The Sandy Par
ent Teacher meeting at Junker's con
fctionery was not as well attended as
should have been. Steps were taken
to get sidewalks in shape for the
inter, so the children would not need
to roll in the mud as was .necessary
last year. An entertainment will prob
ably be announced before long to raise
funds toward the side-walk, project
Mrs Scales presided and refreshments
were served.'
The Cottrell Parent Teacher will
give a big entertainment Friday even

fire started Kamps recsntly moved to
