were recent visitors at the Lehnfield

Mr. and Mrs. Berhaut of Portland
were recent iguests of the Junker fam
11 y. The Berhauts were formerly
Sandy residents, Mr. Berhaut being a
popular principal of the union high
school. Their many old-time friends
were delighted to see them again, it
being three years since they visitea
Sandy.
Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Erdman and Mrs
Chas. Eottlemay of Deep Creek were
in town shopping last Saturday.
George Macho rode his "fiery steed'
down to Gresham the other day on
businass. It is not prabable George
would trade the horse for a "Henry.
Walter Krebs is driving the water
wagon for his brother Charley during
the threshing season which opened this
week
Will Bosholm will not begin thresh
ing up the Firwood way for a couple
of weeks as the grain is later there.
B. Nelson's big barn is all "sprayed
up" with while pain which hdds great
lv to the attractiveness of the Nelson

Wm. Fisher of Firwood attended the
Jones sale at Mayberry last week.
J. G. De Shazer has been cutting
grain for Charley Updegrave the past
week.

Mrs. F. H. Lake of Sandy and Mrs
Richey of Pleasant Home were chaper
ones for a party of 15 girl reserves
who spent four days of the week on
an outing at the old Schminke place
in Dover. Shaw's of Pleasant Home
reside on the place now.
Henry Kamp was out here after a
truck load of work for Carl Langer
last week and said he is living in his
own home at Portland, has plenty of
room and "everything" and is happy
as the -nroverbial lark.
Joe De Shazer and Mr. Udell of
Dover has bought a new threshing
machine and will commence threshing
at once.
This is the earliest season for many
years and the fanners evidently co
not expect to get caught like they did
last fall, but will rush the grain into
the barns as soon as possible.
Attillio Gereghino left for Portland
expecting to sail for San Francisco
last Mondav where he will stay with
Walter Demartini, a relative, who is a
leading lawyer of 'Frisco He also
has other wealthy, distinguished rel
atives there who will help him get a
start in his profession and also in his
music
The Ralph Crysler family are agan
at their "summery" cabin down on
Cedar creek for the rest of the season.
Crysier is proprietor of the Skidmore
Drue: Co.
On Wednesday night "Behold the
Man" was given at the Sandy movie
house and the pictures were pronounc
ed fine. The usual Saturday pertorm
:tnpp was not on.
Miss Ruth Krebs has been out hom.
for a week's vacation with the home
folks. Ruth is working in Portland.
Mr and' Mrs. Jndinett were down
from Snag Camp a few days ago to
have dental work done, walking Dctn
"going and coming" Mrs. Jadinett is
a Bohemian bride of a few months,
but says she likes it here and has
learned to speak a little English.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ganger of Bull
Run are boasting of a fine new baby
bov which was born August 2 and

also teems proud to be -grandma"

Lcvd Caron was down last week
from Wild Cft and said the huckle
berries were getting ripe. They are
much earlier this vear, it seems.
Catherine Allen has been out from
Portland spending several weeks
with the Baumback family.
Cyril Gray has bonght a new truck
and is- hauling gravel on the highway.
Hughie Fitzgerald spruced all up and
went to Portland last week for a day,
which was long enough for him.
Hughie is getting younger every day
despite he is "nigh on to eighty." His
oat meal diet has made a young man
of him.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nelson and son
Thomas of Salem were guests of the
Enson family several days last week.
Mr. Nelson Is principal of the Salem
high school.
Miss Pauline Zogg is home again on
the ridge and is feeling much better.
Carl Loundree is getting tired of
restaurant cooking and is glad when
Sunday come3 so he can eat "Mamma's
crooking" again.
Mr. Berhaut, who joined his wife
here on Sunday at the Junker home,
ihe w remaining till Monday, is with
the Strong and McNauighton Real Es
tate Co Mr. Borhaut retails his two
years here as principal of the high
school with pleasure.
Mrs Martin PIzzola went to Port
land Monday to se her nephew off to
San Francisco and remained for a
week's visit with friend and relatives.
Miss Lulu Eddy had the misfortune
to lose her bedding on the last end
of her journey from the Jefferaou
Endeavor camp meeting.
Mrs. C. W. Newman of the Dover
district was in town shorping at the
Scales store Monday.
Mario Eoitano was in town Monday
getting new rhoes put on his team.
Mrs. Edith Crump, sister of Jack
Burnett and four of her children were
visiting "Jack's folks" several day.

neighbors have moved away.
"Glndys and Ralph" Ganger have de
cided to call their new-born baby son
William David and the little fellow
feemi to be thriving under such, a
substantial cognomen.
Miss Calista de la Fontaine came
out from Portland for a day and night
In Sandy recently and was the guest
of Mrs. J. C. Duke. Miss Lela Fon
taine will leave at once for Berkeley to
lake up her senior work in the univer
sity. During the summer she took an
extension tT" course in Poitland in
botany and other studies, also did
some tutoring.
'Mrs. R- E. Esson, tha children and
Miss Fay Young went to Portland oa
a litle "pleasuring" tour Thursday of
last wek, rteurninig horns the first
of this week.
D. Dittert went to Portland to attend
the buyers convention last week and
Mrs Dittert looked after the business
and home affairs.
Jack Scales tried to take in all the
fun ther was going at the buyer's con
vention last week
Fritz Junker is keeping up his car
toon practice and does some very
good work for the Junker front win
dow. Wilfred Elliott has had a hard time
with an injured finger the past two
weeks which kept him from work.
'Twas a mistake, Gus Dahrens only
had the grip the past week. He was
not crippled, lost no limbs, and never
had any notion of going to a Port
land hospital. Funny the tales that
get told sometimes "This all" was
circulated by word of mouth and. d -d
not get in the newspaper.
Rtv. F. Dsbberful was in Portland
and brought out the speakers. Prof.
Brandt and Prof. Sylvester, for the
big picnic Sunday.
Miss Mary Clark and John Mosier
of Oregon City came out "over Sun
day' at the Bartleymay place at Dee)
Creek for a visit. -
And now comes news of the arrival
of a baby-girl at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Truman Richey (Sophie Zogg)
of Boiing. The little one arrived on
last Friday, Aug. 5, and the happy
parents are receiving many congratu
lations over the arrival of their "first
born" and respond to beimg called
Papa and Mamma iike old timers1.
Barbara Zogg is the officiating nurse
and rather likes to be called "auntie
Chas. Bartlemay of Deep Creek has
traded farms with B. A Case of Rock
Creek, in Eastern Oregon and .wiT
move there in September. The Bartie-
mays have been fixtures between
Sandvridge and Deep Creek and their
neighbors do not like to see thera
leave.
Mr Dwyer and Her.nessy, the time
keeper of the Dwyer Co . wereover to
call cn Gus Dahrens who was not able
to vvork for a week. A steam shovel
man has brought from the O. R. N. Co.
to take Dahren's place, but he will
probably be at work soon.
The Flateau's of Sherwood, Mrs
Herman Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Wewer and the Misse Baldina and
Tillie Miller and Airs. Will Carow
spent the evning recently at the horn.?
of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wendland. Light
refreshments were served. The
Flateau's returned home last Monday
after more than :i week of visiting
around Sandy.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Achoff had
dinner at the home of Mr. and Mis.

attended the baseball game at Corbett.
Mr and Mrs. A. E. Koessel and Mr
and Mrs. S. G. Olsen spent the week
end at the Frey home, "Idlewild." Mr.
Koenicke and Amil Wendland wer
callers at this home on Sunday. Mis.
Olson will remain through the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Billy Dalziel and their
fine dog "Rowdy", Miss Vera Austin
and Bert Lancaster, salesman for the
Cudahy Packing Co., and Mrs. Lan
caster came out to spend last week
end at the Dalziel homestead, which
lias Deen named "Rabbit's Foot Resi."

Wasn't it awful that the pictures
taken at our recent Jersey picnic were
destroyed? Sandy's movie man who
was at the Malar home and took such
pains to photograph the proceedings
of that day lost all his films when on
the river. And the films taken b
Marshall Davis turned out poorly, lo
fate was evidently (against Jersey
pictures that day!
Mrs. Schwartz won the wicker chair
at the Hiz contest last week. Mr3.
Will XJpdegrave came next in votfcs.
Mrs. Updegrave won a berry spoon for
the best nail-driver in the contest.
A ird from Mrs. George Perret
from Cannon Beach tells of the won
derfui time "they" are having, the
change being so delightful that Mrs.
Perret is thinking of prolonging he
stay another week, though George
could not part himself from business
that long.
Mrs. M. l. Thomas, manager of the
Security Benefit Association at Port
land and Mrs. Thomas, Airs. Minni-3
Maybee, Mrs. c- H. Jackson and
Bertie Cline were callers at the -Mar-onay
home a few days ago.
R. E. Esson and Cecil Duke expect to
leave on their vacation the first of
next week
The sale of the T. G. Jonsrud place
of 80 acres at Kelso is reported, the
sale being made to C. E. Littlepags of
Sandy ridge. Mr. and Mrs. Jonsrud
have been on that place, fcr many
a year.
There was a big party last Saturday
night at the old Do.iglas home in hono
of the birthdays of Miss Bina Douglass
and Will Bell. Sixty four were present
and they merrily flew the hours till
the night flew into the arms of morn
ing. George Beers played the violin
and Mrs. Alma Maronay accompanied.
Refreshment were served to" the hap
py throng around the midnight hour.

COUNTY ROAD BONDS
The County Court of Clackamas
County, Oregon, having issued $250,000
of Clackamas County 5 road bonds
dated May l, 1921, due serially as fol
lows:
$25,000 to run for a period of 4 years
25,000 to run for a period of 5 years
25,000 to run for a period of 6 years
25,000 to run for a period cf 7 years
25,000 to run for a period of S years
25,000 to run for a' period of 9 years
25,000 to run for a period of 10 -years
25,000 to run for a period of 11 years
25,000 to run for a period of 12 years
25,000 to run for a period of 13 years
Said bonds are in denominations of
$100 and $500 of which fifty bonds of
each maturity are in the denomination
of $100 each ,and 40 bonds of each
maturity are inthe denomination of
$500 each. All of said bonds bear in
terest from May 1, 1921 at the rate of
5 per cent per annum, payable semi
annually on the first days of July and
January of each year .and evidenced
hy coupons attached to said bonds, and
are payable both principal and inter
est at the office of the County Treas
urer in Oregon City, Oregon, or at the
Fiscal Agency of the State of Oregon
in the City of New York, at the option
of the holder thereof. T.nese bonds
are the direct obligations of the Coun
ty of Clackamas, Oregon, and the val
idity of the same has been adjudicated
by the Supreme court of said State.
Sealed bids for. all of said bonds, or
for any portion thereof, may be de
livered to the Clerk of this Court at
any time prior to the 15th day of Au
gust, 1921, and a certified check, or
money, in an amount equal to 5 of
the bid must be tendered with each
bid. No bid will be accepted or con
sidered unless the amount of the same
is rqual to or in excess of the par
value of the bonds for which the same
is niiide .together with accrued inter
est thereon. The Court reserves the
right to reject any and all bids.
