Mrs. Scales and Mrs. Esson are
much in love with the beauties of Seat
tle, the lights along the U'.kes at night
making a special impression.
Mr. Schminke, a former Sandyite,
spent Saturday night ana Sunday in
these parts visiting old friends and go
ing fishing on the north fork of the
Sandy. . Schminke is still employed
at the Marshall-Wells Co., Portland.
Several families of relatives were out
from Springdale to spend the day with
C. L. Fiske, and brought a picnic din
ner along so Mr. Fiske was spared the
trouble of preparing a bachelor din
ner for the crowd. The picnic proved
to be a happy affair near the Sandy
river.
Mi:-s Mary Scharnke was a helper at
the Meinig store last Monday again.
Commissioner Proctor is spending
the week at Oregon City looking afte
business affairs in connection with hi
position.
George Krebs who is working on the
fine modern residence of Mr. and Mrs.
Ned Nelson says the frame is up and
the work progressing nicely.
Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Smith and chil
dren and Mrs. Sarah cross were Port
land visitors recently.
The Scales-Esson party met Mr
Steelhammar, son-in-law of Mr. and
Mrs. E. L. Powers, while in Seattle.
Mrs. Clinton Gordy was in town sev
eral days during the week visiting- her
sister, Mrs. Miller. The Gordys, form
erly of Reaver Creek are now located
in Gresham, having purchased a home
there recently.
Jack Greenwood took a load c
sheep to the Portland stock yards Moil
day for August Bedenstein of Cherry
ville.
H. Widmer and son have their wool
clip in the pool of the Wool Growers
Association, having joined that organ
ization some time ago.
C. Scharnke and Carl are now paint
ing the W A. Proctor residence. It
beats all" the way folks are painting
up.
A 5-ft cut is being made in front of
the W. Bosholm gate by the road
workers which will put the Bosholm
family "highup" in the world!
Kenneth Proctor is working in the
Proctor store at Pleasant Home.
Wencell and Koesicker finish their
present contract of sawing this week,
and will close down unless a new con
tract is signed up at once.
W. F. Strack pulled out with his
mammoth thresher last Saturday and
was headed for the Slough country
where the season opens earlier than
here.
Chas. Krebs is beginning to get his
thresher in order for a big season's
run, and says he hopes for better luck
than last year, as he got so far behind
after the big fire which destroyed his
separator which also came near cost
ing his life.
H. Widmer and son Will and Henry
Herman went to Portland the first
of the week to buy a team of horses
for the widmers to supplant the faith
ful old mules that are really Sandy-
ridge fixtures, so long have they been
"residents" there.
Grain cutting has been in full blast
this week on Sandyridge. Chas.

Mrs. Walkie Proctor and Miss Vada
Bittis left recently for a visit in Idaho
at the home of their parents., Mr. and

Mrs. Miller, wife of Herman Miller,
' served a big dinner . to fourteen
"grow-ups" and fifteen children at
their pretty home on Sandyridge last
Sunday, everyone present having a de
lightful time during the day. The
guests were the Flateaus', the Will
Carows', three Porter children, three
"Duffy children and Herbert Mathes of
Portland, Henry and Fred Weissen
fluh of Orofino, Idaho, and the Wewer
family. These families also planned
a trip over the Columbia Highway thsi
week.
Miss Pauline and Tillie Miller gsve
a party for about twelve of their young
friends recently at the home of their
parents, the Herman Millers, where
they have been spending their sum
mer vacation.

Mrs. J. C. Duko kindly arranged

the body of John Affolter was brought
there to rest until the services next
day, and then again prepared decora
tions for 1he double funeral of John
and his brother Alberi Afolter. These
tributes were appreciated by the
broken-harted parents and all other9
who attended the beautiful service.
Miss Fay Young also was of service
in helping arrange the last sad rites
of thpse yourpr friends. ,
A beautiful home affair of the week
was the informal dinner party givea
by Mr. and Mrs. C-1. Pureell on Wed
nesday evening, W. J. Wirtz, of Port
land, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Proctor and
Arletha, Dr. and Mrs. Julius Sture and
baby boy, being the favored guests.
The dinner is reported as one of Mrs.
Purcell's "best, and everyone present
were delighted, wth the "homey occa
sion.

their recent visit at Sandy by a mem
ber of the Salem Writer's Club, Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs.. Pureell received a let
lter recently from Dr. Paul Doltz and
their niece Henrietta Doltz which was
written while the Doltz family wer-?
abroad the Empress of Asia on their
way to the Phillipinesi The letters
were written when three days from
Yokahoma, and another week from
their destination- Weather was very
cool, passengers keeping to their state
rooms most of the time. Mrs. Doltz
and Henrietta were not sea-sick at all,
and Dr. Doltz 'not much." The Em
press Is described as a wonderful ves
sel, and all sea-lovers would revel in
the journey described Among the
noted passengers abroad were Dr. Tor
rey the great evangelist ,and Harry
Emerson Fosdick, the celebrated min
ister from New York. The great so
cial hall on this water-palace was the
center for delightful social and musi
cal afafirs. A concert program of 13
numbers, all classic and no jazz, con
sisted of orchestral, vocal, piano, cello
etc. "Henrietta;" played 'Berceuse"
(Jocelyn) the same selection "we all"
requested her to play the second time
for us when Mrs. Pureell entertained
for her distinguished relatives in June,
and not only did Henrietta receive pro
fuse complimnts from the ".sea- way
farers," but her father was congratu
lated over the talent shown in his
daughter's playing. The Doltz fam
ily all remember Sandy and it's people
very kindly, and Dr. Doltz said before
leaving here and it was his dream to
settle down right here in Sandy some
day! Sandy hold out a welcome "fist!"

Mr. and Mrsi. Andresen of Mountain
Roaj w-ere in Willamette Tuesday
and rented the Smith place for the
winter months.
Mr. Harry Shipley returned Satur
day from his vacation sp-nt near
Crater Lake. He made the trip by
auto in company with relatives.
The property belonging to R. W.
Baker of Independence was sold last
week to Mr. Ridder and Glen Eplei
of Willamette. This is one of the
best locations in the city and a new
home will he built by Mr. Epler in
the near future.
Mr. and Mrs. Gary and children
Margaret and Everett are enjoying
the sea breezes at Newport.
Mr and Mrs- Clem Dollar and
children, Mr. and Mrs. John Ream;
Sr., Mr. and Mrs. John Ream Jr., and
children, Mr. and Mrs. August Moe-
hnke and son left last Sunday morn
ing for Netarts where they will spend
their vacations.
Mrs. Carpenter and children and
Mrs. Alice Larson returned last week
from Newport.
Mr. and Mrs. A D. Mae's of Port
land and Miss Alice Baker of Ind-
pendence visited at the home of Mr-
B. F. Baker Sunday.
The W. C. T. U. meeting held at
the home of Mrs. McArthur last Fri
day was well attended. After the
business meeting refreshments were
served and a social time enjoyed.
Mrs. Ewalt Leisman has been ill the
last week and confined to her room
During the early part of the last
week the dirt covering the pavement
from 14th Street to 7th street was
removed and the seven block n Main
Street opened to traffic.

Here to Gladstone
The Gladstone-Oregon City road.
which for the past week has been
closed for repairs, necessitating a de
tour through Clackamas heights, was
opened to traffic Wednesday after
noon.
The road had a large number of
holes and bad spots., which have been
re-surfaced. It is now in good con

The County Court of Clackamas
County, Oregon, having issued S250.000
of Clackamas County 5 road bonds
dated May 1, 1921, due serially as fcl
lows: :

25,000 to run for a period of S years
25,000 to run for a period of 9 years

Said bonds are in denominations of
$100 and $500 of which fifty bonds of
each maturity are in the denomination
of $100 each ,and 40 bonds of each
maturity are in the denomination of
$500 each. All of said bonds bear in
terest from May 1, 1921 at the rate of
5 per cent per annum, payable semi
annually on the first days of July and
January of each year .and evidenced
by coupons attached to said bonds, and
are payable both principal and Inter
est at the office of the County Treas
urer in Oregon City, Oregon, or at the
Fiscal Agency of the State of Oregon
in the City of New York, at the option
of the holder thereof. Tnese bonds
are the direct obligations of the Coun
ty of Clackamas, Oregon, and the val
idity of the same has been adjudicated
by the Supreme court of said State.
Sealed bids for all of said bonds, or
for any portion thereof, may be de
livered to the Clerk of this Court at
any time prior to the 15th day of Au
gust. 1921, and a certified check, or
noney, in an, amount equal to 5 of
the bid must be tendered with - each
bid. No bid will be accepted or con
sidered unless the amount of the same
is equal to or in excess cf the par
value of the bonds for which the same
is made .together with accrued inter
est thereon. The Court reserves the
right to reject any and all bids.
