POLISH NATION
FEELS GRATEFUL
FOR II. S. HELP
SAN FRANCISCO. Feb. 3. (Special
to the Enterprise) An example of
how the United States is "winning
the peace", a task second only to
winning the war, is afforded by a re
port by Professor Jan Los, of the
University of Cracow, Poland, which
was today received at the Pacific Of
fice of the European Relief Council.
Professor Los had been detailed to
make a survey of the attitude of the
Polish people toward other nation
als. Portion of his report dealing
with America reads:
"You have saved the lives of hun
dreds of our future generation, and
while this has touched us deeply the
extreme delicacy with which you
have tendered us this charity, say
ing that you were merely striving to
repay us for our Kosciusko and our
Pulaski won our love. We are not
accustomed to such delicacy in the
present state of Europe.
"Hitherto, we had not known Ameri
ca. Now only have we learned to
know it as the land of high intelli
gence and noble heart."
After reciting the history of Her
bert Hoover's childfeeding first
through the American Relief Adminis
tration and now through the Europ
ean Relief Council, Professor - Los
continues: "I have seen hundreds of
these emaciated children dispersing
from the schools with a cup of hot
chocolate and a bun of a slice of
bread in their hands. The relief has
saved thousands from death In Cra
cow alone. And how many thousands
in Poland. If the Americans who
gave the means for feeding them
could see them now. They have
grown up to health. Their eyes are
bright. They will make healthy and
"seful men and women. "With deep
motion and with true gratitude,
hou sands of Poles repeat the name
it America, wishing it the greatest
development and prosperity."
FORUM OFTHE PEOPLE
To My Fellow Citizens of Our Fine
Old Home Town: It has just struck
in! I ami going to write it down, and
confess shame that it hadn't occur
ed before. The Morning Enterprise
has space 4 1-2 by 6 1-2 inches devot
ed, free of charge, to the cause of
the starving little ones of Europe. I
do not suppose that that most choice
space upon the front page could be
bought, but I rather imagine that at
front page rates it would be worth
from $10 to $15 per issue. There
have been, possibly,, twenty issues
containing this appeal. My "arith-
metic-er" tells me that that would
amount o between $200.00 and $300.
00 worth of space already donated.
and, doubtless, more to follow.
And here's the point.. From all en
quiries I finS that that is the sort or
service tlhatj is btelug rendered by Hep
bent Hoover's organization, that-your
ten dollars may buy one thousand
cents' worth of food for the starving
children of Europe. Pretty fine,
isn't it!
P. S. This one nearly got away.
The Editor must be about ready to
explode with editorials. Just think,
he has backed clear out of his "pul
pit" to let us hear the little children
cry for bread!
I am going to take this to the En
terprise and see if they will publish
it.
Sincerely ("I (thank you")
H. G. EDGAR.
OREGON CITY, Feb. 2. (Editor
of the Enterprise) In last Friday's
issue of the weekly Enterprise I
noticed an item of the Mt. Road news
as follows:
"We are very glad to hear that our
road supervisor was re-elected for
the coming year."
Your correspondent whoever it be,
was evidently mistaken, misinform
ed or handled the truth rather reck
less. Tbo fact is that about eighty per
cent of the community are not glad
nor are they satisfied, and what's
more, will not be satisfied, but 'will
contest the appointment to see if
they cannot get a . square deaL For
any man that gets his appointment
for supervisor as our present ap
pointee got his, and those men that
may have assisted him are not men,
but merely selfish individuals, and
as such do not require the good will
of their community.

NO SUCCESSOR

The county agent's salary was in

is rerorted that now is the time of
year for the agent to get in some

as can be learned, no effort has been
put forth, either by the county court
