from the Revenue Department in Port
land made a raid Saturday evening on
the Olson place on Lake Road and ar
rested two Austrian and confiscated
a complete moonshine outfit, seme rai
sin whiskey and raisin mash.
The two men rented rue fine home
ot Mrs. Olson a short time ago and
must hate commenced operations at
once, bit their business was short
lived, for the officers soon were tipped
off that the place needed watching
and their arrest followed.
Miss Blanch Klieb will entertain
the Caandian Club of Portland this
evening at her home on Henneman
street. The Club Is looking forward
to a delightful evening.
A baby boy arrived at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Renfrew on 23th
street
Mr. and Mrs. 0. H Hadden are en
tertaining relatives from Eastern Or
egon and Eastern Washington this
week. The party made the trip by
auto,
T. R. A. Sellwood a prominent mem
ber of Milwaukie Grange, was elected
chaplain of the State Grange at the
meeting of that body at Bend.

There were no failures In any class
in the grammar school this year.
Mrs. Kmllie C. Shaw and her corps
of teachers were congratulated on the
close of a very successful year, as
was Prof. Wakefield and his staff of!
high school instructors.
The Milwaukie public schools held
the graduation exercises on Friday
evening. May 28th. Prof. Buback of
the Oregon Agricultural college, was
the speaker, and he gave a fine mes
sage to the young people.' Mrs. Pearl
D. Wisslngec, the chairman ot the
Board of Directors, made a short talk
and presented the diplomas to the.
nine graduates, Tina Haggerman,
Gladys Cowell, Frances Harter. Cath
erine Wilson, Mildred Myers. Gladys
Wetxler, Henry Stevens, Irwin Adams
and Allen Green.
After the chairman had presented
the diplomas, a flower shower was
given the class.
The closing exercises of the Sisters'
School will be held Friday evening a
the City Hall, when a tine program and
play will be given by the pupils of the
school. This Is the close ot the first
year of this school and it has been very
successful. 60 pupils were enrolled.

nal, as he arraigned "halt-baked men
and women who teach half-baked doc
trines in the schools" and "the aggre
gation of corner-grocery politicians
who represent us in the Senate,"
charging finally that 'It Is we who are
the real Bolshevists" for permitting
such conditions.
R. L. O'Brien, editor of the Herald, I
introduced the speakers, among whom
were Joe Mitchell Chappie of Boston,
Frank B. Stoneman, managing editor
of the Miami Herald, Miami, Fla.; T.
R. Finlay, vice-president of the Stack
Advertising Association of Chicago,
and H. K Gross of Chicago
Editor Rathom's topic was "Who
Are the Real Bolshevists?" He began
his ddress by counselling absolute
honesty, courage and truth-telling la
the expression of editorial opinion.

The funeral of the late R. Richard
son, who passed away at his home on
Hill road after several months' illness,
was held Wednesday at Portland crem
atorium.
Mrs. Ray Marrs is confined to the
house with measles.

caller Friday.
The Social Service club met with
Mrs. J. D. Butler on Hill road Thurs
day. Response to roll call was infor

According to Ogle's confession,
Smith, upon whom an attempt was
