to raise our voice In protest at this
time against the gradual encroach
ment upon our private rights by the
organized lawyers and doctors ot this
stata. 1 say lawyers first because
they, as the great majority of law
makers, have granted to the organiz
ed doctors the absolute power of lite
or death ot us private citizens. Think
of It! It the, lets say, five thousand
doctors In this state, or any one ot
them, should say to the six hundred
thousand ot us, If we should happen
to sneeze for Instance, "Seo here,
sneezing is a bad habit and catching
and apt to endanger the community
so you will have to permit mo to
shoot Into you some vile unnatural
pua from some sick animal or yoiw
stay in your shack until I give you
the word to come forth again," you,
my dear sir, would have to obey this
gentleman to the letter. Great isn't
it? And I Imagine they laugh up their
sleeves at our stupidity. And the
guaranteed dollars that roll into their
pockets! Fine. No, Mr. Editor, It is
high time that the citizens of Oregon
were waking up. We need no force
to compel us to look after our lives.
It Is a travesty on our Intelligence to
permit such Imposition by these men.
I recognize the value of a good doctor,
but I detest tho principle that law
gi'ves him absolute power over me. It
seemg that our long cherished Am
erlcan freedom Is flickering even In
these things.
