STIFF SENTENCES
Ilootleggers held the center of tbe
stage In Judge Slevers court Thurs
day, and the two men arrested at dif
ferent times Wednesday by the sheriff
and local officials, were given stiff
Jolts.
Mike Marchep was assessed $100 on
account of bis mysterious connection
with two suit cases left In t local res
taurant. A Portland friend of Mike's
was present when the sad decree was
handed down, and tbe friend paid tbe
1100 together with costs, and both In
sisted that Mike knew nothing of the
booze,
Marchep was spotted by Deputy
Sheriff Henry Hughes Wednesday af
ternoon as be was leaving a local res
taurant ,the suitcases having been left
there shortly after the arrival of tbe
Frisco train Wednesday morning.
William Werner wbo was arrested
by Sheriff Wilson and Night Officer
Surfus Wednesday evening, with two
suitcases of booze, was given ft 100
fine and al Towed ten daya to get the
money. Judge Slevers was more leni
ent with Werner, as be Is a married
man wlth-a tubercular son. Tbe fam
ily has been In tbe south for the ton's
health and Werner, who was formerly
a farmer in the Colton country, ad

District Attorney Hedges filed ft

sometimes described and referred to

ring and cancelling all right, claims,
estate, liens or interests ot whatso
ever nature, which you or either of you
have or claim in said real property or
any portion thereof, and for a further
decree that plaintiff be declared and
decreed to have and hold and possess
a fee simple estate In and to said real
property, and every part thereof, free
from all claims of any nature ot any
or all of the above named defendants,
whether known or, unknown, and for
all other equitable relief demanded in
the complaint of plaintiff, or which to
the court may seem equitable.
