around two tables at 47 Lafayette
street and began the first meal un
der the supervision of the Life Ex
tension institute, which hopes to show
that an individual can lives cheaply
and satisfactorily despite the pres
ent high cost of food. In the teat the
cost of food per man is estimated at
! cents a day. The teat Is being con
ducted by I'r. Kugene I.. Pisk, med
ical director of the institute.
The cost of the dinner, which will
be the bsavlest meal of tbe dally
menu, waa a fraction less than 10
cents for earh man. The meal con
sisted of lamb stew with vegetables,
stewed apricots, bread, butter, cof
fee and gingerbread. At lta conclu
sion all of the policemen praised the
qwality and expressed saisfaction
with the quantity of the food, and
each promised faithfully not to par
take of food anywhere but at the
scientific diet kitchen during the next
twenty days.

wrestler and strong man to a finished
match to be held In your town. I have
been here from tbe eoat for about four
months during that time I have been
meeting all comers. I have wrestled
the light heavy weight champion of j managers
highway and a committee was ap
pointed hy President Eby consisting
of IJvy Stlpp, County Judge Ander
son and E. Lv Pope, to draw up
similar bill which will define the state
highway as running from Portland on
south through Oswego, across the
suspension bridge at Oregon City and
thence on south through New Bra lo
the county line, and on to Salem. Aa
this route Is some flvo miles shorter
and embraces a highway of unusual
scenic beauty, P Is thought highly
possible that this road may be de
clared the logical highway.

Representative Hrownell each gathered

discuss consolidation. While Dimick
was consulting with his senate com
mittee Hrownell murchod his men in
to the governor's office where tin ex
ecutive ejc planed his consoliatton ideas
and answered questions. No definite
action was taken by either the hqusj
or senate committee today and the two
committees appeared no nearer har
mony than they were yesterday.
Hrownell Introduced tho following
hills today: f 6,000 appropriation for
a pioneer monument at Champoeg;
prohibiting salmon fishing on tho Will
amette river north of n line 6000 feet
below the present fish ladder; $10,000
appropriation for the entertainment of
the Grand Army of the Republic na
tional encampment when It meets !n
this state; prohibiting dealing in sal
mon caught with hook and line during
the season when catching the same
