the activity of his wifo, ho declared,

lost out when his wifo, he charges,
wrote un anonymous letter to the
Chautauqua agency.
After losing out in Washington, tho
couple separated in' 190f, Mrs. McKall
going to Cleveland, 0., where sho liv
ing wiih her brother. Ho wont to
Wallace, Idaho, where after estab
lishing a legal residence he filed a
suit for divorce. Tho case was dis
missed and he came to Oregon.
In an answer filed through Attor
ney Clyde O. tlarmeler, of Portland.
Mrs. McFall accused her husband
with being too intimate with several
of his pupils. Sho denied all of his al
legations. When tlio case was tried Mr. McFall
went on tho stand on his own behalf.

against F.lsle Darnell In a divorce suit
(lied Friday by J. E. Hedges, repre
senting Mr. Darnell. They were mar
ried February II. 1891, In Mueksburg.
The alleged desertion took place In
July, 1S99, 17 years ago.

The steamer Argosy, drawing a foot
and a half, w as s'lghtly damaged In
going through the Oregon City locks
Monday.
The lower lock chamber Is now so
shallow that nono of tho river boats
when loaded can go through. In com
ing down stream the lower chamber Is
flooded by throwing open tho gates
above. The volume of water is usual
ly large enough to carry tho craft
over the shallow chamber.
The lower chamber wns flooded for
the Argosy, when she cither struck a
rock or opened a seam. The pumps
w ere started.
It has been over a month since the
lower water began to interfere with
transportation.
