The fifst heavy frost of the season has struck Sandy, making things look rather frigid. All late planted spuds are frost bitten. The potato crop is very light. Most farmers only have a one-third crop. The roads from Sandy to Bullrun are almost impassable on account of the great amount of freight hauling for the Mt. Hood road. The Mt. Hood Railway Company has built a ware house on Ed. Re venue's place for the auto truck, which makes daily trips from Port land with freight. The company is also building a barn 750 feet long to house the army of teams to be em ployed this winter on the big reser voir on Bullrun flat. The first power plant to be in op eration for the Mt. Hood railway will he completed in a few days. It will furnish power for a sawmill machine shop and rock crusher. A new business building is going up on Main street. What it will be used for is hard to tell, but it will be a modern up to date building at any rate. Several Important real estate deals took place in town property and sev eral new business enterprises will start very soon. Mrs. Dahmens has purchased a business coiner from the Sandy Land Co. She is a first class dress maker and has opened an establishment. Mr. and Mrs. N. V. Lane are doing a rushing business in their bakery and quick lunch counter. Mrs. Iane is; noted for first class meals. Mr. Meyers, a banker, was in Sandy making arrangements to start a bank. Sandy will hold a meeting to locate boundary lines before incorporating the town of Sandy. One of the most important of re cent real estate deals was .closed when Chas. Krebs purchased the J. E. Gibbons farm of 160 acres for 110.000. Mr. Krebs then divided the place into six parts, selling 15 acres to G. Finger, 40 acres to Fred Succo, 20 acres to Wm. Bell, 20 acres to B. Jonsrud, 40 acres to R. E. Jarl, and balance, 25 acres, he will keep him self. D. W. Cassady is now living In town, having sold his farm at Dover. Every house in town is filled, some houses having two and three families in them. L. Davies has moved up to Toll Gate to take care of a summer hotel for the winter. T. Vanderhoof and Geo. Williams were arrested for catching salmon un lawfully. These men were refused a chance to furnish bond before the local justice, but were handcuffed to gether as though they were desperate criminals and were taken to Oregon City. They were strangers there ;:nd of course could not get bail, so were thrown into jail, an act that has ftirred up a bad feeling against game ward'-ns. Such unnecessary expense and disgraceful treatment to our citi zens is almost the limit. Sandy Grange had a splendid meet ing H-iturday and six new candidates were Introduced to the mysteries of the Grange. Miss Bessie Canning, Miss Le Gaud. Mrs. Maggie Edwards, Mrs. N. Malar, Mrs. Stevens and C. Corey. A splendid dinner was enjoyed in the ways and means were discussed for either starting a new county or mak ing another effort to be annexed to .Multnomah.
