Mrs. Anna Knight, of Portland, ar rived in Canby on Tuesday morning for a few days' visit with relatives. "Husky" Roy Knight, who has been at Heppner, Eastern Oregon, where he has been pitching for the baseball team, has returned to Canby, nnd his coming will be greatly rejoiced by the ball team here, as he Is considered to be one of their, star players. It Is probable that the Canby . team will enter several of the baseball games that are scheduled for the county fair, when Knight will be one of the play ers. J. J. Sandsness and K. Lee went to Portland on Monday, where they pur chased several pieces of farming ma chinery for the Lee place. While in the emtropolis Mr. Sandsness met ons of his old friends, Mr. Steelhannuer, of Silverton, who Is a Republican can didate for Representative. Mr. and Mis. J. H. Colby and wife, who have been visiting with their daughter, Mrs. C. Edwards, at PuyaS lup, Wash., have returned to Canby. While at that city Mr. Colby pur chased a house and two lots and states that If he can dispose of his property interests here he will go to PuyalHtp to make his future home. There Is some activity going on In Canby in the way of Improvements and of building. Mts. Epsie Lee, who recently pur chased from G. A. Cobb 20 acres of land, will have Improvements made. John Henderlee Is building a new two-story house on his live-acre tract, which the recently purchased from G. A. Cobb. Horace Pntch is building a new resi dence on Poplar street, in the Ded man Addition to Canby. A. Stefanl is contemplating build ing several cottages on his land he purchased in the Canby Gardens. Mr. Stefan! will occupy one of the build ings. A. H. Lee is building a store-house on his property near the Kesselring place and will erect a larger building fronting the property in the near fu ture, which will probably be used as a store building. The large warehouse of W. H. Locke, one of Canby s progressive commission merchants, which was re cently enlarged, has been painted and presents a very neat appearance. The addition to the Cobb & Dilling ham store building is nearing comple tion and work on the fair grounds, which will include the building of a dancing pavilion, seats for the visitors will be started within a few days. Rousch this week purchased a bottle of carbolic acid at the Paddock drug store and placed it in his pocket. Not thinking that the cork would come out of the bottle while In his pocket, while at work shortly after wards felt a burning sensation on his side and upon investigation found that the contents of the bottle had been emptied into his pocket and his cloth ing saturated with the poison and the flesh on his body badly burned.
