The strawberry seawm opened up unite early, and the growers are re ceiving good prices, with prospects of continued good prices. There Is a large acreuge of strawberries grown around Candy. White School H.n Picnic. The pupils of the Wliltu school were given a treat on Thursday when their teacher, Prof. Howard Kccles, gave them a picnic, and a good time was spent In games. .Mr. Kccles Just closed a very auccosHful term of school, and baa already deen re elected to teach the Fall term. There are (ill pupils enrolled at this school, two of which graduated on Wednes day, these doing Fred J. KenKuight and Victor Olson. Corvillls Creamery Shipping Lota of Butter. There Is considerable activity going on In the Corvallls Creamery In this city. J. C. Kapplscb, who Is munager in this city, baa been mulled with orders from the headquarters at Cor vallls, and It was neceiry to have Mr. Homan, of Chicago, III., to assist him. On Monday there was shipped from this house 5.0t0 pounds of but ter, shipped to Corvallls. and from there will be shipped to Alaska. Since Mr. Kauplsch has come to Canby he has Interested the dairymen and Is finding no trouble In gathering the cream for the butter-making. Ice Is being received from the Ice plant of the Corvallls Creamery at Corvallls, and Mr. Khiiplsrh finds there Is a steady demand for same. Ogle-Gurly. (ieorge L. All arrangements are now com pleted for the big race meet that Is In charge of Sim I.lndsey, the well known horseman of the stato Mr. I.lndsey Is being ably assisted by Howard Eccles, who is acting as sec retary. The Candy band has been engaged to furnish the music for the nfternoon. The affair will close with n grand ball in the evening at the City Hall. One of the features of tho after noon, which promises to be a big drawing card. Is the matched race between Zolock and R, Amdush, the latter of which Is owned by Robert Brltt being one of Zolock's colts. Tnis wilt bo for a purse of $200 and $200 added, winner to take all. This Is to be one of the greatest matched races that was ever pulled off In the Hiiiio of Oregon. The great pacer, Zolock's ri-cord la 2:05 1-4 and H. Ambush' 2:C'J 14. It Is the fast Cal ifornia trotter thut won the big trot ters' slakes at Halein In 1907. No one should fall to see this race. Retail Grocer May Meet Here. The next meeting of the Oregon Retail Grocers' Association may be held In Candy, as Mr. Frank Jenkins, traveling passenger agent of the Southern Pacific, has assured the lo cal people that he will be glad to assist In bringing the convention here. New York. Everyone Is getting ready to at tend the Rose Show In Portland next week. F. E. Black and son are very ef fectively painting their buildings with a spray pump. Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Meindl, oi Portland, have been visiting at the Mountain Ash Stock Farm. Mies Marie Harvey has returned home from Mulino, where she has been visiting. Charles Snook made a business trip to Vancouver last week. Mr. and Mrs. Herman J. Peterson, of Philomath, were visiting with George Lazelle and family last week. Another accident caused by an au tomobile occurred In this community last Sunday. Lake Casto and family were going from this place to New Era, and an automobile crowded on to his team of colts until they became unmanagadle and turned the hack over, and running away, aone mucn damage to the rig. Mrs. Casto and the three children were burt, but not serious. Mr. Casto was hurt very badly about the head. Mrs. Milton Mattoon is visiting with her folks in Newberg. Thomas Kelland very nearly lost a valuable horse last Mondny, but for the nromot action of some of the neighbors, who caught the animal. At a well attended meeting of War ner Grange at New Era on Inst Sat urday many propositions were dis cussed, tho most important being the matter of making an exhibit at the County Fair nt Canby this Fall. As It was learned that much Interest Is being taken in Grange exhibits this year. It wns thought best to begin early and make the best exhibit that has ever been made. Mnny oi tne members Bpoke enthusiastically upon the matter and It was ordered that work begin at once. Master W. A. Dodds appointed the following com mittee to sail the proposition through o success: George M. Lazelle, S. L. Casto, Mrs. George Ogle and George ltimdall. Munq new features are planned for this year and everyone should see the same at tbe fair this Fall. Warner Is the only Grange In tho county that has never fulled the fair with nn exhibit. Other Granges would do well to follow this example and begin early to make arrangements. A good programme was enjoyed during the lecturer's hour In charge of XI. J. Lazelle. The programme was with odservance to Memorial Day. Among the speakers were Hon. George Ogle, of Molalla, and Mrs. Fred J. Meiudl, of Portland. It was autiounced hy the lecturer that a prominent speaker would address the Grange at the next meeting, namely, Alfred D. Crlilge, of Portland, associ ate editor of the Lador Press. The meeting will he opeu in the arteruoon and all will de invited to come and have advantage of the address. Warner Grange Is growing and of much beuutit to Its members.
