Jake Peters, our enterprising busi ness man, visited the county seat on Monday. Mrs. Galbreth, of Tualatin, visited relatives near jour village on Fri day. Mr. and Mrs. Rothburg were in Wil sonvllle on Monday. Reed Graham spent Monday in the! Rose City on business. ' Prof, and Mrs. Graham and family hare moved to their beutlful ranch home for the Summer. Whooping cough in a light form Is quite prevalent, and even some of the grown people are "whooping it up" with the "kids." Don't forget the Epworth League Social, on Saturday evening. May 21st. The young people of this society are planning a splendid supper and enter tainment for that evening. Be on hand to enjoy the result of their labors, and help a good and worthy cause. The usual Decoration Day services will be held at Hood View on Mon day, May 30, and an appropriate pro gramme, Is being arranged for that time. The dance on Saturday evening was well attended. Joe Epler's orchestra furnished the usual good music for the occasion. : The Ladies' Aid Society, under the direction of Mrs. Brobst, Is trying to do something to help the Lowry fam ily, who lost everything In the fire. Mrs. Marlon Young entertained the members of the Ladies' Aid Society on Thursday. Eighteen ladles were in attendance and enjoyed the hos pitality of this favorite hostess. We are glad to notice that the Grangers have pledged their aid to ' the high school cause, for their sup port means something, as the mem bers are always bosy where progres . sion is concerned. . The village baseball team was again victorious in Its game with the Tualatin team on the 15th Inst. The result of the game was 11 to 15 in favor of Wilsonville. There wa3 great excitement in the ninth Inning, when tie teams tied, 11 to 11. A large crowd witnessed this splendid game, from which our boys returned crown ed with their usual laurels. The house belonging to J. W. Thorn ton, and occupied by the Lowry family was burned to the ground on Satur day, May 11, while Mr. and Mrs. Lowry were at Oregon City. Professor Bethnue of our local schools, has been visiting some of our sister schools, making addresses in the interests of a high school here. It is thought by men who have Btudied the question that the high school fund law will carry In Clackamas County by a large majority, and then if we have a high school of our own, how much better off we will 'be than to allow all our appropriation for stu dents to go elsewhere. G'-t in line for a high school right here at home, and help the boys and girls. The public picnic given at Corral Creek school grounds on Saturday, May 14, was well attended, and was a very enjoyable nna The program which was followed by the dinner, was given by the pupils of the school un der the direction of their capable and talented teacher. Miss Bailey, and was excellent and very entertaining. Mr. Mallatt Is doing some road work this weqk. which was badly needed. Mr. Wallace and Fred Churchill are plowing and grading the road In front of Mr. Wallace's house. Mrs. George Mallatt, from Eastern Oregon, is spending a few days in this neighborhood. Ernest Davis and friend spent a few days with his parents last week, going back to Portland Saturday. Elmer Erickson has gone to Port land to work, thinking he would find more congenial employment there than in the shingle mill. Claud Ashby's parents, from Salem, spent Saturday and Sunday with he and his wife at their home in Mulino. " Farming Is all done for the pres ent, and the State Grange hag adjourn ed, and now comes the comet. Miss Penwell came near being badly hurt Saturday morning while taking a horseback ride. The horse threw her, hurling her side and shoulder quite severely. The people of the neighborhood re ceived a series of shocks Friday and Saturday evenings that resembled a panic or earth quake, In the nature of a Hallow'een May party. Dick Foreman has just completed a new house in Maple Park, which Is to be used for a lodging house and picture gallery. Mr. Daugherty, of Wilholt, was visit ing his son, Henry, Saturday. The Milling Company Is construct ing an undr ground flume from the mill pond to the Molalla river. John Allen is building a very neat cottage on the north half of the Allen block on Lake street. .Mr. Neeley made a business trip to Oregon City Saturday. School Superintendent Gary spoke at the Grange Hall on May 5. on the subject of union high schools, and seems to have aroused considerable enthusiasm. The subject was dis cussed at the grange meeting on the 6th of May. and all the speakers fav ored the plan. Our road boss Is doing a large amount of work on the roads now. He has two crews working, one north of Barlow and one near Frank Cam pan's. Mrs. Frank Oglesby, who has been sick for over two months, is able to set up and Is rapidly recovering. Miss Ida Ball is chief cook at Mr. Oglesby's now. Geo. Oglesby was elected a delegate to the Woodmen Convention to be held at Newberg on May 18. Wm. Armstrong, of Mendean, Is slowly convaleslng after a long siege of sickness. The d'-ath of Hon. Henry Snyder, our efficient Aurora postmaster, has cast a gloom over the entire commun ity. Henry was well liked by almost every one of the patrons of the Au rora office. Hon. Nixon Blair, of Klllen pre cinct, will be a candidate for county commissioner and his many friends will see that he succeeds In the nom ination and election. Several fishing excursions are being planned by some of our famous dis ciples of Sir Isaac Walton.
