Hy Frank MeCraoken, A simple and touching ballad by the well known author of "Willie's Nose Is Hod": a learned treatise on "Fumngatlvo Qualities of Syrup and Ashes." now attracting considerable attention In scientific circles, and others: Come nil you gallant linemen, come listen hero today; I'll tell you n sad story of linesman Jimmy Hay. He landed In this city, n place you all know well; he was Just a common rubberneck, In tho Pioneer Hotel. WW ho would be, In the evening by the fire-place he would sit with his feet upon tho mantel, ashamed, not a little hit. ICvory evening by the fire place: sitting there he d gnu and think, pulling off his shoes of lncc(?) sully! how they'd smell. Sitting nt his ledger, dreaming there of more; hoys were tired of seeing Willie's shoes uihmi the floor. Then they tilled his shoes with syrup, to make them smell more sweet, but sticky was the "larrup" when It reached poor Willie's feet. Ills language then makes awful dashes, as he (Ills bis shoes with ashes. This made poor Willie look nulla sick, nml he told the drummer 'twas a dirty trick. Quietly spoke the drummer, no smile upon bis face, saying, "It sure ly Is not summer by tho smell around this place," When Willie, with his little shoos went up above for his night's repose, mad he was, through and through, but his shoes stuck like glue.
