With the sun shining on Tuesday II really nave some of the people of this city the spring fover, iul several of Its Inhabitants were seen In the gardens. Since Main street his been treated to a gravel It presents a more at tractive thoroughfare than before. One thing about the soil of this place, l! never gets impassable like some ' other sections of the county. This street should always be kept as at tractive h-oking ns possible, owing to the many people passing through (his city on the trains. Arthur Knight. Tom Johnson and Cliff on! Wilcox, of this place, were Oregon City visitors on Monday. Harry Sherwood, of Beaver Creek, was In Canby over Sunday, visiting with relatives. A. M. Condlt, of this place, went to Oregon City this week. Mrs. T. J. Gary, of Willamette, spent Tuesday with her sister, Mrs. C. Wang. E. H. Carlton, of Portland, was In this city on Tuesday looking after the Interest of Ills business here. Mr. Carlton states that Mr. Rosen krans, who was Injured In an auto mobile accident during the summer, Is improving rapidly, and is now able to be at his place of business in Tort land. The many friends of Mr. Ros enkrans of this city are pleased to hear of his recovery. Ruby Smith was an Oregon ( City business visitor on Sunday. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vor pahl, a daughter. Mrs. George Osbom, of Oregon Citv. visited with her sister, Mrs. A. j. Burdette. on Monday. Mrs. Wang went to Portland on business Friday. Lyman Skinner, who resides north F Dr. Dedman, Mayor of Canby. was In Canby on business Monday and while here visited the fair grounds. T. J. Davidson, of the cannery com pany, went to Portland on Monday. Mrs. Adam Knight returned on Sun day evening from Portland, where she has been spending the past week with her sister. Howard Eccles went to Portland on a business trip on Saturday, return lug on Sunday evening. C. H. Fraer, field manager of the Corvallis Creamery Company, was In Canby on Saturday. J. C. Kauplsch, who Is manager of the Canby Creamery Company, went to Needy. .Maeksburg and other sec tions of the county, covering about 45 miles on Monday, where he went for the interest of the company. Mr. Kaupisch has engaged cream from many of the dairies, and the company of this city, Is very low with typhoid j fan handle all that comes in, paying fever. Mr. and Mrs. Persons, who reside near the German church, have sold their place to C. Bates. Mr. and Mrs. Persons, have resided In this city for the past year and during their stay here have made many warm friends who regret to see thenk leave. They expect to leave the latter part of this week for Bend, where they have purchased a ranch. Mrs. George Myers, who has been visiting with relatives at Molalla, re turned home oa Monday night. Herbert Armstrong, of Champoeg, is visiting with relatives In this city. He is spending the winter with his aunt. Mrs. H. S. Tice, of Adkins Mill. Mrs. C. C. Hutchinson. Mrs. W. S. Rider, A. H. Lee. Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Lee went to .Portland on Sunday, where they attended the funeral of George Shields, which was held on Sunday afternoon. Claude and Arthur Torgerson. who have been suffering with inflamma tory rheumatism for the past two weeks, are improving. Several of the young people of this city attended the dancing party at Barlow on last Saturday night. A good time was reported by those at tending from this city. TheOglesby orchestra furnished the music for the dancing. George Frazer, one of the promin ent farmers of Molalla, was in Canby on Wednesday on business, and while here was the guest of his brother-in-law Stonewall Vaughan. J. J. Sandsness went to Portland Monday to buy some holiday goods, and on Tuesday went to Barlow cn a business trip. Miss Elsie Beck, of A'Jrora, who has been visiting with her sister, Mrs. J. Lee Eckerson, has returned to her home. George Lazelle, president of the Clackamas County Fair Association, 40 cents per pound for butter fat. Herbert Robbing left for Portland on Tuesday morning's train, where he visited with friends for a few days. Successful Bazaar Given. The baaar given at the city hall by the Ladies Aid Society of the Meth odlst church was a complete success, and the proceeds amounted to J3S.70. There was a large attendance, and the young folks as well as the older ones had a most enjoyable evenliig in games. There were many beautiful articles, the handwork of the ladles, as well as useful articles donated, on sale. Refreshments were sold during the evening. The candy booth was presided over by Mrs. J. A. Graham, fancy hand kerchiefs and cushions booth was In charge of Miss Helen Graham. Miss Nellie Hampton; fancy articles. Miss Snell; Japanese booth. Mrs. Porter, who was dressed In Japanese costume. The members of the Aid Society work ed hard to make the affair a success, and It Is probable that a similar one will be given next year before the holidays. Death of Frank Presold. Frank Pretzold. who died of par alysis at his home, near Maeksburg. on Saturday was buried in the Zlon cemetery on Monday. Deceased leaves a wife and two children. Mr. Persons it given Farwell Party. Mrs. Persons, who will leave the latter part of this week in company with her husband for their new home at Bend, Oregon, was tendered a fare well party at her home on Monday afternoon, by her friends. During the afternoon a luncheon was served. It Is with much regret of her many friends that Mrs. Person is to leave Canby. as during her residence here she has made many friends. Among those who called at the Per sons home on Monday were Mrs. George Koehler, Mrs. C. L. Bates, Mrs. William Brewer. .Mrs. William Cant well. Mrs. M. T. Mack, Mrs. Mary lloughani, Mrs. Kate MoUmnn, Mrs. .1. Wilson, Mrs. John Knylor, Miss Ropswell. Mittt-Miller Wedding. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Kugenu Mitts, two miles of Needy, was the scene of a very pretty wedding which took place at high noon. Sunday, Dec ember 12. The contracting persons wore Miss Mary Mtits, of Needy and Mr. Arch Miller, of Molalla. , The room In which the ceremony took place, waa boautlffully decorated with evergreens 1 and Mowers, appro priate for the season. At the appoint ed hour, the bride, attired in a beau tiful white wedding gown, and the groom dressed In a splendid conven tlonal black, marched ont before the guests, where the ceremony, which both hoped would be short, took place. Atter tne usual congratulations were extended by the guests, all col leeted In the dining room tn do Jus' tice to a wedding feast, which would have dono honor to a king, After the usual indulgencles at the table, the newly weds drove to Canby, where they took the afternoon train for Portland. There were mauy rich and beauti ful presents given. Mr. and Mrs. Arch Miller will make heir home on the Miller farm, six miles southeast of Molalla. Ivan, Miss Ethe Ranch, Everett Armstrong. Mrs. George Rauch, Mr. Clarence Nelson, Miss Azilee Haley, Miss Mattle Sum- tnerfleld, of Canby. Oregon. Encampment Elects Officer. The I. 0. 0. F. Encampment met In the Knight hall on Saturday night and elected the following officers to serve- for the ensuing year: J. Lee Eckerson. chief patriarch; O. R. Mack, senior warden; Adam KMlmer, Junior warden; Dr. H. A. Dedman. sec retary; Adam Knight, treasurer. Crew on Headgate. There Is a large crew of workmen cn the headgates at Canby. A 150- foot crib Is being constructed. There was some damage done during the recent high water, amounting to about 2.00O. but the management will push the work along In repairing and con tracting as rapidly as possible. Funeral of G. Shields Held Sunday. The funeral services over the re mains of George Shellds, who died In Portland on December 3, were held on Sunday afternoon. December 12. from the Erlcksrin undertaking par lors. In Portland. The services were conducted by Rev. Frank De Witt Finlev. of the United Presbyterian church, at 2 o'clock and the remains were Interred In the Greenwood cem etery. There were mnny beautiful floral offerings, a token of high esteem In which the deceased was held. Many friends of the family attended the services. Mr. Shields leaves a wife and baby eight months old. who are at present staying with Mr. and Mrs. IL M Lee In this city.' Canby Canal Company Buys Land. The two lots belonging to Mrs. Anna Knight on Second and D Streets have been purchased by the Canby Canal Company, to erect a building of its own for its offices, and this will be built at an early date. Dr. Dedman Is man, whom It Is assured, that will take an interest In his duties as mayor, and look out for the' city's affairs In a way that will suit the people.
