William Snido began teaching the Greenwood school Monday. Cassady Bros, bave been building a new house the past week. Who says Greenwood isn't growing? Mr. Knowles purchased a newi horse this fall. Mr. Lafollet and family, of Prlne Tille, who were visiting at the home of his sister, Mrs. B. F. Allen, have re turned home. He was very favorably impressed with this part of the coun try and may decide to buy here and make this bis home. Mrs. Lafollet, Mrs. Allen's mother, will spend the winter here. Mr. White, of Mt. Pleasant, is haul ing lumber from the Cassady saw mill to build a new barn. REDLAND. E. N. Brock put in a phone for Mr. Swartz last week. They are on line eight. Clear Creek Creamery paid 37 cents a pound for butter fat during the month of September. , Mr. Foster has finished his part of the work on H. A Allen's house and returned to his home In Logan. Mr. Allen's family are moving in this week. Mr. Funk and son, Arthur, and D. R. Allen returned from their hunting trip last Saturday with a big black bear and a bigger bear story, of how Don came near being drowned by one, when the bear came up within six or eight feet of him from behind.. Mr. Funk looked around in the nick of time, called out and run and fired and after four or five shots were fired, some at the bear and some at the blue sky, the bear fell. All returned home safely and several families enjoyed bear meat for breakfast next morn ing. SHUBEL. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schoenborn, of Colton, Wash., visited friends bere a few hours Friday. Wesley Hill, of Madras, Oregon, passed through here last week, tak ing in the sights of bis old home community. John Bluhm has purchased a new disc plow. MaDy friends from this place at tended the funeral of Mr. Mayfield at the Clarkes cemetery today. George Stevens and family have moved to the Cummins saw mill, where Mr. Stevens will be employed. Mr. Massinger is building a new cellar. Frank Grossmlller Intends moving on George Steven's place in the near future. John Moehnke and family, of Ore gon City, have moved into Churls Bluhrn's house here. Mr. Moehnks does the logging and lumber hauling for William Moehnke's sawmill. Jacob Grosamlller is getting rich this year selling apples. He is one of the best orchardlsts In the country. At the meeting held In the school house Saturday night, our former teacher, Mr. Glnther, showed very plainly by an itemized statement, that the slander is a disgrace to any com munity. Mr. Glnther was accused by some unknown persans of pocketing entertainment money, whereupon Mr. Glnther called a meetiug giving his statement, showing that not only did he properly expend the money, but In addition JT.SO of his own. Babe Bevens, who has been spend ing the last two months with her aunt at Independence, has returned home. Fred Baker has returned home and started to school at Oregon City. Oldeuberg, has purchased ten acres from his father and will put out ten acres to fruit trees in the spring and build on the place and make this his permanent home. He Is now employed by a large fruit buyer and is buying fruit. He has been in the fruit business for 17 years. The father has also been in the fruit business many years. The Oldenbergs are formerly from La Grande. J. C. Coller, of Canby, Is having his bouse repaired, painted and paper ed. Bates & Patch, of Canby, are do ing the inside work. The family of L Oldenberg will occupy the house during the winter. Misses Rose and Emma Reuck and George Rauck, Jr., came up from Portland to attend the fair. School opened Monday with a good attendance. Miss Wlthey and Miss Dunn, both of Portland, are our teach era. Miss Wlthey has the principal ship and Miss Dunn the primary grades. Mrs. L. B. Irvln and Mrs. W. W'oos- ter called on Mrs. Quint Thursday. Mr. Moe is erecting a neat resl dence on his property. Robert Ogle's wife, of Portland, was visiting him last week on the ranch. Mrs. Ed Ogle's "brother, Clark War- nock, wife and son, Morris, of Sll verton visited Mrs. Ogle during the county fair. Carl Eckern, George Berg and Hjalmer Erlckson are attending school in Canby. The boys are taking the tenth grade work. it was reported In the Canby Trib une that Barlow Grange had an ex hibit at the county fair. This was a mistake. Dover was very sadly affected W oil- nesday, September 29, by an acci- lent caused by the overturning or a anon, throwing the occupants, Mr. and Mrs. Howe, of Flrwood, from the niron. Mrs. Howe received gashes non the back part of her head while Mr. Howe escaped with only a few bruises. They were cared for at the home of Joseph DeShazer. until able to be removed to their home. Mrs. Kehres has gone to Flrwood to cook for one of the camps at that place. Albert Lupton, of Minnesota, here he has been conducting a hos pital and sanitarium, has bf en looking he country over In the vicinity of llorlng and Sandy, with a view of es tablishing a hospital. Ho will return to Boring the first of the week, and If a suitable location can be found will commence building a hospital at once With the many mills around thlB section of the country where men are constantly exposed to ac cidents, such an enterprise would be of benefit.
