of James Downey, mayor of Willam

SPRING IS POLLUTTED.
Typhoid Germa Found In Water On
Indian Camp.
The existence of bacilli in the water
from a spring on what Is Jinown as
the Indian camp in the South end of
the city Is confirmed in a letter from
Dr. R. C. Yonney, secretary of the
State Board of Health, to Dr. J. W.
NoiTis, county health officer, who se
cured samples of the water which
were sent to Portland and an analysis
made by Dr. Ralph Matson, the well
known bacteriologist. There have been
several cases of typhoid fever during
the last two months and Dr. Norrls
suspected that the Infection might
have been due to the use of this water.
The spring will be closed to the use
of the public.
Acording to a statement made by
on official of the Hawley Pulp & Pap
er Company, the water has not been
used by any of the employes of the
company for many months. When the
mill was first placed In operation
last winter the use of the water was
common, but It was discontinued as
soon as Mr. Hawley learned of the
practice.
