NEWS OF THE COUNTY MEADOW BROOK. That rain Friday was greatly ap preciated by the business men of town. Quite a number of our folks attend ed the educational rally and chicken dinner at Muliny Saturday. The Meadowbrook high school opened up Monday morning with Miss Mabel Chindgren as principal. Lee Adkins and family visited at O. T. Kay's, Sunday. Mr. Wingfleld preached at the school bouse Sunday. F. R. Cooper returned . Saturday from an extended trip in Southern Oregon, where he went to transact business with a land syndicate. Arthur Mallat is clerking for Ralph Holman at the present. Ralph and his father are interested In the con crete business at present i The Meadowbrook Canby Canal Co. hopes to be able to turn the water in to the canal within the next two weeks. With two railroads assured and the third one in sight and the water flow ing down the cnaal, Oregon City tak en in by greater Portland, Molalla left out in the cold, Meadowbrook at once becomes the central point and Is therefore the proper place for the county seat. Mr. and Mrs. Calahan called on Mr. Staudlnger and family Sunday. R. H. Snodgrass, of Mulino Shingle Mills, was in town Thursday looking around in the Interest of a timber com pany. A rare treat is in store for this place in the near future. It is not the coming of President Taft or Dr. Cook, but Gilmore's band Is expected to be here at the opening of the Meadowbrook Canby Canal. Hop pickers are returning home and the children are preparing for school, which begins next Monday. John Reid and family, of Spring water, stopped Saturday night at James Gibson's on their way to the huckleberry patch, ami accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. (.'dell, resumed their journey Sunday morning. Elder ,1. D. Norman and daughter, Miss Frances, came out from Portland Sunday and Mr. Norman held services at the school house Sunday morning. They returned home the same day. Mrs. A. .1. Douglass, of Dufur, who has been the guest of relatives for some weeks, went to Portland Mon day on her return home. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Hoodie, wuh their children, moved to Estncada that, they might, aend their children to the Estacada school this winter. School opened In District No. 50 on Monday morning with Miss Crouch as teacher. Mrs. R. B. Gibson has been suffer ing with a cold the past two weeks. Mrs. Cahlll Is on the sick list. She has been quite ill, but Is getting bet ter. Mrs. Powell's baby seems to be on the road to recovery after a close call with an attack of cholera Infantum. A minister from Portland has been holding services In the school Iioiish since Sunday in the evenings, but so many are hop-picking there Is a slim attendance.
