For sale by Huntley Bros. Co. , FAIR RACES NEXT WEEK EXCITING CONTESTS OF SPEED BETWEEN FAST HORSES AT SALEM. NEW POULTRY FEATURE Camping Privileges Are Improved This Year and Better Railroad Facilities Are To Be Maintained. Ths racing programme of the Ore gon State Fair, Halem, September 13- 18, has been so arranged that there. should be exciting content of speed between tbe trotters, pacers and run ners every day of that week. No rac ing association on the pacific coast offern so large purses to the own ers of homes as does the Oregon Siato Fair management. Some of the swiftest horses In the United States will be on the track In tbe large event and records will surely be broken to pieces. There will be a model chicken yard at the Oregon State Fair, Salem, September 13-18. Outside of the poultry building, In tbe shade of an oak tree, there will be a colony house with a fenced yard enclosing two dozen Plymouth Rocks. The house will be of approved style, suit ed to most farm conditions, and ev ery furmer Interested lu poultry keep ing will do well to study It. The flock of Plymouth Rocks will be one of the best in the state. Adjoining this will be a small coop which serves he purpose of a hatching bouse, a brooding house, and a colony growing house for chicks. This will be fitted up for batching the chickens. Another coop of the same kind will show how the house used for brooding the chicks. Two hens with about fifty chicks will demonstrate tbe use of the house. These houses and appli ances are Intended to represent the equipment necessary for succesful poultry keeping. This Is a new fea ture of the fair which should prove In structive as well as attractive to vis itors. It Is planned by the poultry department of the Oregon Agricultur al College. One of the pleasures for many people attending the annual State Fair, is the privilege of being num bered among the residents of the tented city Just outside the main en trance to the fair grounds. Each fam ily Is allowed on the camping ground a space of twenty feet front on the street and thirty feet back for camp ing purposes. By this means the camping ground has the appearance of a white canvas city during the en tire week of the fair, as thousands of people come from a distance to enjoy an outing and at the same time participate in the pleasures of the exposition week. All intending campers are required to apply to the superintendent of the camping ground for campers" certlflactes, which will entitle them to the right to purchase campers tickets." The Southern Pacific Company has completed the building of Its 1700- root switch from the main line at the Oregon State Fair Grounds denot along the western boundary of the camp ground to the rear of the live stock barns. This change of track will be of great advantage to the livestock exhibitors at the next fair, as It will permit them to unload their stock directly at the barns and not otherwise be disturbed, and also not cause any Inconvenience to other snipers as has been the rule at past fairs. The new bungalow rest room will be a great convenience for those who win attend the next annual fair at Salem. It Is a spacious building hav ing an attractive exterior and the in terior fitted up with all of the modem conveniences necessary for such a piace. it has long been needed, and can now be classed among the perma nent ouiiaings on the fair grounds.
